Dr. Keith is in Norman and he is wonderful, and his staff are very informative and helpful. I can't tell you how many times I have called his office just to ask questions and get more info. He also has never lost a patient and his success rate of his patients is very high. I don't know about you but these facts were very important to me.

I do not know of a surgeon in the Durant area, but I used to live there. I am now in Tulsa. I am using Surgical Associates (Dr. Kevin Fisher) I would be interested to know the person and help them as much as I can.

Thanks for the replies. She has just decided to ask her Dr. about this, as none of her doctors have recommended it for her and she is well over 300 pounds at about about 5 foot 2 inches tall.

Call 1.866.WGTWISE WeightWise provides a surgical and non-surgical alternative for the management of morbidly obese individuals throughout the United States with an innovative and progressive multidisciplinary bariatric case management program. The WeightWise program distinguishes itself through a personal approach to care management. For surgical members, WeightWise literally "walks" the individual through the process of insurance review, program parameters, hospital stay, and long term care. Our program identifies the structure to maximize outcomes through a proven approach to patient care management. WeightWise is a multi-disciplinary effort that addresses the two key issues in weight management--energy intake and energy expenditure. By incorporating the activities of nutritionists, exercise physiologists and behavioral therapists under a physician's medical direction, we have developed a unique and proven method. A comprehensive approach to morbid obesity is the only long-term remedy. A limited focus on weight loss is a cosmetic solution with only temporary results. The long-range proclivity for weight gain requires that all methods of treatment should be pursued under a physician's direction through medical evaluation, nutritional guidance, exercise programs and behavior modification. It is very important to distinguish terminology within the program structure. Individuals are classified into two groups: Members: Those individuals who join the program who have not had a surgical procedure. Patients: Those individuals who have joined the program and had a surgical procedure. Nutrition Members and their families are generally unknowledgeable about the composition of different foods and their impact on metabolism. Yet, even those who try to attain greater nutritional awareness often encounter unsustainable diets based on restriction and deprivation with no accommodation for cultural preferences. Any changes our nutritionists suggest and which members adopt, must enhance health. Apart from the nutritional value of food, time is devoted to preparation, serving sizes and quantities. Exercise Physiology Research highlights that lifestyle changes focusing on decreasing the level of sedentary activity are much more effective than regimented physical activity. Experience shows that compliance with traditional gyms and gym-based programs is minimal. This is why our fitness center will be dedicated solely to our patients and members. By contrast members and patients are encouraged and educated on how to incorporate more moderate physical activity on a regular basis into their everyday lives. For example, walking, rather than attempting to jog two miles every day, is sustainable and generates results. Incorporating even slightly more activity on a daily basis into one's lifestyle can lead to an overall increase in energy expenditure. Behavioral Therapy Depression, poor self-esteem, negative self-image and withdrawal from peers are some of the psychological issues that will be addressed with WeightWise. WeightWise is based on peer group activity. These groups play a critical role in diminishing a sense of isolation and supports acceptance of each patients experiences. The groups are also able to encourage one another, and seeing the progress of others encourages individuals. In treating obesity, behavior modification alone has shown success, nutritional therapy alone has shown some success, exercise physiology alone has shown some success and interventional surgery has shown success. However the combination of these four modalities under the direction of a medical expert is clearly more successful in the long term. Our ultimate goal is to optimize patient safety and promote high quality care. Equally important, this bariatric program will enhance public health policies and scientific research in the area of weight loss surgery. Bariatric Hospital Goals The goals for WeightWise affiliated bariatric hospitals include decreasing costs and improving clinical outcomes for the bariatric patient. Our program will emphasize coordinated case management and education of the patient, family and primary care provider about the goals of the procedure and what the patient is expected to do as their part. After care and strict adherence to a dietary and nutritional supplementation schedule will be emphasized. Bariatric Hospital Goals include: Providing maximum safety for patients by supplying properly proportioned and strengthened equipment to suit their needs. Providing maximum safety for staff by giving proper training for use of the specialized equipment. Having care givers who are sensitive to and aware of obesity issues and their impact on the patient. This quality is expected of the staff and is continually evaluated. Program initiatives that reduce or avoid patient fear, degradation and segregation. Properly informed and trained staff regarding the needs and concerns of bariatric patients. This includes, but not limited to, psychologists, dieticians, transporters and nurses. Creation of a task force to evaluate the needs of the obese for continual growth and advancements in this field. This task force will also evaluate the maintenance and upgrades of equipment, as well as state of the art surgical tools. Awareness of all possible concerns with reimbursements and the ability to approach those concerns in the best possible manner. Bariatric Hospitals have transformed the lives of patients in need. We also have: A developed, top-notch bariatric program A fully trained and prepared staff to handle every patient need
