Hi all, Ok I am obsessing about the scale. I am 12 days post op and have "only" lost 9lbs. I say "only" because I know how difficult it was in my former life to drop 9lbs!! Anyway, I keep waiting for more to come off and for the last 3 days the scales have not moved. I am eating according to my Dr's plan and walk around the block almost everyday (a couple of days I just have not felt like it!) I do have a very slow metabolism thanks to underactive thyroid. Should I be excerising more? I feel like I am cheating everytime I take a bite of food. I think I have a lot of "diet baggage" and perhaps need to change my thinking about things.... Oh well. What do you thing o' friends in weight loss?? Thanks! Jana 244 pre op 1-9-06 235 now

Jana, Just be sure that you are following all of your doctors instructions. Be sure that you are getting all of your water and protein in. Both of those things are critical to continued weight loss. Try not to despair, I too, hit a plateau at two weeks out. It is very discouraging. I thought at that point that I was going to be the first person to have this surgery and fail. But after a few days the scale began to move again. This will happen to you periodically thorough out your journey, it happened to me about every 25 pounds after that first plateau at two weeks out. One day I got up and was down a pound and again the next day, and the next, three or four pounds would fall off rapidly, and all of a sudden I going again for a few more weeks. Hope this helps. Hi Jana. One thing to remember is when you lose inches you do not usually lose pounds at the same time. With you being only 12 days out it is hard to tell what is going on. Don't let the scale rule your emotions. If your attitude for the day is being determined by the scale, don't weigh everyday. It is really easy to get obsessed with weighing. Maybe you should come to a support group meeting. There will be one Thursday night 1/26 at Edmond Hospital in the same room as the seminar. It starts at 5:45 til 8 pm. As far as exercise goes, don't push yourself to fast as you are not very far post-op. Leanne

Jana Congrats on your surgery. That is a very big decision and I am sure you didn't just wake up one day and say I think I will have gastric surgery.. You know not to sound harsh here, but try not to be so hard on yourself. Really 9 pounds in 12 days is good, that is almost a pound a day, now when have any of us done that. It is very easy to get hung up on the scale. It took us time to put on the weight and it takes time for it to come off, but you know you have been blessed with this surgery and now you really can loose this weight. I am so instant gratification type person myself and I felt like you did. Also once you do loose a good amount of weight it takes time too for your mind to catch up. I am where I want to be and just now getting to where I don't think I am fat all the time. Be kind to your self by taking it one day at a time and doing what your supposed to do and you will get there. I am not saying it is easy, but it is easy to get hung up on the little things, your body has to catch up from loosing weight. We all have diet baggage for sure. But that is why we come together!!!! Hi Janna. Dr. Floyd did my surgery 4 months ago. As of today I have lost 92 pounds. I can't stress enough to get in your protein and TONS of water. Crystal lite is great and Sugar Free Hawaiin Punch Strawberry Lemonde is my new best friend. I did plateau, but it doesn't last long. You are going to do wondeful!!!!
