I used Dr. Gorospe in Tulsa. He has done over 4,000 surgeries and specializes only in this Surgery. My sister and I had the surgery 2 days apart and are both doing fine. Her's was Dec. 6th and mine was the 8th. I hope you can attend one of his seminar's and realize that he is the best of the best. No matter which you decide I wish you great success and amy prayer's are with you.
I had my RNY,surgery with Dr Keith Nov 29, 2004, a littel over13 months ago and I lost 178bls.I was 363bls now am 185 and feel great. Retta- I'm attending Dr. Keith's next seminar (which are free) on Jan 25th. This is the next available one. Call their office at:
okc office 405-691-1332
norman office 405-364-9110
See if she can sign you up for the seminar without filling out the package before hand, or see if you can come in and fill out a package if it's required. I sent mine in right before xmas. I had to call to see if they recieved it though. Otherwise I would have been still waiting now. The seminar is held in the Education building at norman regional hospital and starts at 6:30pm. I hope that helps! I'm going through this too, so let me know if you want someone to go through it with! My email is [email protected] I'm 21 and have 2 children ages 4 1/2 and 4 months. My husband and I (who is also 21) are stationed at Tinker AFB. I hope this helps! I don't know much about Dr. Keith but I have heard nothing but good things.
Hello there! I don't know anything about Dr. Keith since I don't live in that area of Oklahoma. However, I can tell you about Dr. Gorospe, and he is totally AWESOME! He has done thousands of RNYs...that is his SPECIALTY. That is why I chose him to do my RNY. I wanted the very best doctor, the most exerienced, and the best track record for my surgeon. I had what is called a "revision" on 9/8/05. (I had my stomach stapled about 25 years ago.) He did a LAP RNY on me. There aren't very many surgeons who can do a LAP RNY as a revision without cutting you open. He is highly skilled, and is on the cutting edge of all the latest technology and techniques. There are many patients from the Oklahoma City area, and out of state, for that matter who traveled to Tulsa in order to have Dr. Gorospe as their surgeon. As to his bedside manner, it is just wonderful. He is very caring and compassionate, as is Dr. Kirk, who is his partner. SouthCrest Hospital in Tulsa is simply wonderful. The entire 3rd floor is for bariatric patients, and all of the rooms are private rooms. The doctors and nursing staff were so kind and helpful to me. Because I am a registered nurse myself, I know about the "quality of care" I received, and I recommend Drs. Gorospe/Kirk, as well as SouthCrest Hospital wholeheartedly. Good luck to you. Feel free to email me if you would like more information... Marsha
Dr. Gorospe is the greatest! He did my lap RNY May 31, 05, and I have had ZERO complications from it! Also, he has a free monthly support meeting that has been a lifesaver for me! Sorry, don't know about Dr. Keith, but I can tell you Dr. Gorospe is great, and his office does a great job of taking care of you as well!
*hugs*

Hi there, I can tell you that I went to both doctors. I went to both their seminars and also had a consult with both. I am choosing Dr. Gorospe for several reasons. I am also a Revision from a previous VBG in 2000. Like Marsha said he does all his procedures lap. Dr. Keith said that I would have to be opened up. I did not want that. That was not the only thing that made me choose Dr. Gorospe. While researching types of revisional surgeries, I found that I wanted a distal RNY instead of a proximal (Dr. Keith does only proximal). Also, Dr. Gorospe puts a metal band at the bottom of your pouch to help when your pouch heals it can stretch out. The metal band helps from the food moving through your pouch to quick. Dr. Gorospe has done far more surgeries. However, Dr. Keith has never lost a patient. Then again, Dr. Gorospe has been doing this "a lot" longer. Since the 80's. Anyway, I hope this helps and if you have any other questions, e-mail call me.
Thanks
To add to this. It's a plastic ring, not a metal one, just wanted to mention that, since our bodies can react worse to metal in our bodies! Also, Dr. G has done over 4000 gastric bypass procedures over the last 30 years, and only lost 7 patients. 1 was due to a heart attack the next day, that couldn't necessarily be tied to the GBS, one was a Jehovah's witness *****fused a blood transfusion (and it has haunted him ever since, he said if the patient had allowed the transfusion, he probably could have saved him), and the other 5 were due to pulmonary embolism, which is a risk of ANY surgery. They have support meetings on the second Monday of the month, 6:30pm at the UMAC Center at Mingo and 71st, you should come check them out!

To add to this, Dr. Gorospe will routinely have an IVC filter placed if your BMI is over 50--the filter will catch any possible blood clots before they reach the lungs and cause a pulmonary embolism.
I had the IVC placed by one of his associates and Dr. Gorospe did my surgery on Nov. 14, 2005 and I've already lost 57 lbs. and have had NO complications. I highly recommend him!
