scheduled for RNY on 01/19/06...needing emotional support...please!
hi kelly im leah and welcome to the group congrats on your wls ... this journey is absolutely wonderful... i had open rny done sept 16th myself and i have lost 60 lbs and 35.5 inches as of last week... things to take to hospital with you are as follows... book, robe, slippers, loose fitting clothing for the ride home, baby wipes, depending on your size possibly tongs or long handled spoon... the purpose of those and the wipes are for personal hygeine cause if you are like i was at 408 lbs, i would have NOT been able to wipe myself... (sorry for being so graphic) even if you dont use them take them... right after surgery it is very difficult to twist and reach so they will help... take a list of phone numbers of ppl you want to call, something for dry lips, lotion, tooth brush, tooth paste, brush or comb, pillow to hold against you for the ride home...the first few days are the most difficult, but within hours after your surgery you will be up and walking the halls... get up and move as much as you can handle, it will help get the gas pressure out... use your morphine pump as much as you can, and use it 30 minutes before you get out of your bed, and as soon as you get back in it from walking... it will help with the pain the first few days... they will send you home with some pain meds... i had surgery on friday, and by wednesday i was done taking all pain meds... be sure you sip sip sip and walk walk walk when you get home... dont worry if you cant get in enough protein, and water for the first couple weeks... most ppl cant... you main have some weight gain right after surgery, that is normal as well... avoid the scales at all cost for teh first few weeks... i only weighed when i went to teh dr office and was amazed and very happy that i did... good luck and gods speed on your healing process... welcome to the loosing side

How wonderful! I am so happy for you! Please let all of us know how you are doing after surgery. I have my seminar date so after that I can get my consult etc. etc. Good luck!!
Hi Kelly! How cool, I live in Altus also and I am having my surgery on the 17th with Dr. Warnock. My daughter is going to be with me and she has promised to post updates along the way via my laptop. I have to say that I am not feeling the TOTAL anxiety thing yet, it just kind of comes in waves and I just try and swim through it. I go for all my preop stuff tomorrow (12th). Have you done yours yet? I just keep telling myself that I am worth all this trouble and that complications simply are not acceptable. I guess am just really anxious to come out on the other side and start a new life. Geez....I sound like a TV preacher....lol. Now, after saying all this, I will probably be unable to sleep tonight cause I am scared out of my mind. Don't ya just wi**** would hurry up and get here?
Hey, ya'll, congrats on surgery dates!!! This is the best thing you will ever do for yourself. I don't know about you, but as a wife and mother of three, I did everything for everyone else, if new clothes were needed, they went to the kids, you know? It felt very "selfish" to me to want this surgery. Now that I've had it, I'm so happy! And the side effect is, I can do even more, I have energy to do the things for everyone AND for me! I got a complete makeover done at 6 months out. Now, I actually put on nail polish! A small thing, but big to me!
Keep us posted, y'all are gonna do great!!
*hugs*
Valerie
