Nervous and waiting
I have had my initial appt. with Dr. Floyd, had the psyche eval, and the EGD. I'm not sure of many more of the next steps, but i'm anxious. I'm worrying that the set deadline to having the surgery won't be met. I know that they are submitting to my insurance to get the go ahead. How long does this take, do they let you know something soon? Poor Kenney.... I'm scared to have the open RNY, but according to my insurance, that is the only approved proceedure. Dr. Floyd says that he'd rather do the Lap RNY because I'm a good candidate for it. So, it's killing me to find out which I'll have done. I would love to hear some input on this and what to expect from A - Z. My insurance carrier is BCBS. Thank you all for your support and time.

Hi there,
I had my first consultation with Dr. Floyd on October 21,2005. My surgery was approved on October 31,2005 and my surgery is Monday November 21,2005.
Talk about fast, I didn't have time to breathe but I will tell you that once the insurance comes through the ball starts rolling and doesn't stop. I had my psych review the Friday before my approval on the 31st, my nutrition class was on November 9th, my EKG,chest xray,ABG and echo cardiogram were all on the 14th and my ultrasound on my legs was the 15th and my preop blood work and endoscope was on the 17th! By the time the 17th had rolled around I was confused somewhat about where I was going and who I was seeing It got kind of comical after awhile!
I may have broken the world speed record for getting it done quickly! But I am glad it moved so quickly because it gave me less time to worry
The process has been such a great help and Kinney will be such a help to you! Please stay in touch and wish me luck on Monday.
Deborah
I thank you so much for the rundown. I wish you the best of luck with your surgery, and congratulate you on the speedy process. I'm climbing the walls waiting for the ball to get moving for me. May I ask who your insurance carrier is?.... I am so impressed with the quickness of the situation. I could only hope that mine were that way. I'm so excited for you. Please stay in touch and let me know how yours go. If you don't mind me asking, which proceedure are you having done?
I am in the same shoes you are. I was approved in one day and now am waiting for all the dates. What a Christmas resent. I am so excited. Looks like we will be doing this about the same time. E-mail me at [email protected] if you ever need to talk. We probably will be going through everything at the same time. I also am using Dr. Floyd. Oh, I am also having the RNY.

So I have a question for one or both of you. I'm having my RNY with Dr. Floyd in December and I have all of my pre-op tests next week, including my psych evaluation.
I've never talked to a psychiatrist, counselor, or anyone, and was just kinda curious what the evaluation entailed? What did you guys cover? I mean, obviously I don't need specifics. But any general info would be great. And did you guys go see Dr. Keller, Floyd's recommended psychiatrist? Or did you already have someone?
Just another thing for me to be apprehensive about, I suppose.. Haha..

PS - Hope everything went GREAT for you Deborah!!
PPS - Any particular date scheduled yet, Heather?
I went and saw Dr. Keller. First when you get there, there is a clipboard laying out for you to answer a bunch of questions. Get there at least 30 min early to get this done. He's very nice and direct. He just talked to me first about some of the answers on the paperwork, nothing big. Then he asked me what all I knew about this surgery, and some of the things that accompany the after effect. I felt like he was trying to determine my stability on handling this life changing event, and the after effect. You'll do fine. Just be honest and you'll breeze through. If you have anymore questions please feel free to email or ask here.....Good luck.
