Best Saint Francis RNY Surgeon?
I hate SouthCrest too. However, I started with Katsis and switched to gorospe because of the number of surgeries Katsis and Fischer do a year is less then a 4th of those Dr. G does. Also Katsis and Fischer have a several month waiting period. I started with their office in January and was not even called for a consult until last week. I saw Gorospe the next week after my first group session with Katsis' office and I have surgery on wednesday. They use the same doctors (worley and dobratz, and cashman) so if you have those scheduled it will still work either way.
You and I have talked several times, I understand hating SouthCrest, they are a little snotty and want their money NOW (which is stupid) but I think Dr. G out weighs the hospital itself. I know more people who have had Gorospe then those who have had Katsis or Fischer.
I started with Dr. G in March 2001. By the time I got to have my surgery in August 2004 I had to change doctors because of my insurance PPO and I am very glad I had to change. Yes, there is a long waiting time, but from your very first visit they are preparing your body for surgery. I had no problems and I believe it is because of their program. I felt with Dr. G's office that I was just another surgery and with Surgical Associates I am a patient.

Why do you hate Southcrest? And, yes the number of surgeries is a major factor in the experience and expertise of the surgeon. I get so tired of hearing people whine about feeling like the Dr or staff doesn't care about them. I had surgery at Southcrest on March 1 with Dr G and Dr Kirk and the entire experience, though did have some minor problems, was so easy and I was very happy with my surgeon and hospital. The main difference between Southcrest and Saint Francis is that Southcrest has a dedicated staff that handles the bariatric ward and the entire 3rd floor of Southcrest is only for bariatric patients. Everything there is geared to make our stay easier and their nurses have a great deal of experience with just bariatric patients (some have even had the surgery themselves). I don't know much about Saint Francis's program, but I do know how St Francis's staff is in other areas. I have had several family members have to go there for different reasons and they never seemed to be taken care of correctly. I had an aunt who died at 50 and during her stay at St Francis they were constantly doing stuff to here she didn't need and neglecting her when she needed help. I suppose we all have our prejudices for whatever reason, but I can tell you I would never go to St Francis for something as life-altering as bariatric surgery. I loved the support system I felt was in place from the first with Dr G's office being right there because I saw the surgeons, the staff, and my case manager everyday I was there at Southcrest and it felt to me like they all cared so much about what was best for me. I have had at least 5 very good friends who have had surgery with Dr G and they are all so pleased with him and their results from surgery. My friend Angelia has lost over 180lbs, my friend Dan has lost over 150lbs, my friend Starla lost over 120lbs, my friend Melissa has surgery the same day I did on March 1, 2005 and has lost over 30lbs, my friend Marcie had surgery on March 21, 2005 and has lost about 20lbs, and I have lost about 43lbs so far. I tell you the main thing Dr G does that is different than a less experienced surgeon is that he uses a silastic ring to help retain the food in your pouch to keep you feeling full longer which keeps you from eating too much, stretching out your pouch too fast, and keeps your from gaining after the weight is gone. So, hope that helps you to understand why I recommend Dr G above anyone else because he is an awesome surgeon and is recognized by his peers for his expertise. I wouldn't make a rash decison to change drs just based on a feeling about the hospital. I know southcrest can be all about their money, but it's an extremely expensive procedure and they are very good about working with you to find a payment plan you can live with.
I believe the best doctor in Oklahoma is Dr. Katsis with Surgical Associates. He is a kind, caring, christian doctor and before I put my life in someones hands that I didn't know I prayed about it. I felt very comfortable within a few minutes of the first visit and knew he was a praying man and that he was not going into surgery without praying first. That was a defining moment for me! I trust him completely and he did a great job. He is also the head of the trama department at saint fransis and has seen it all, so if anything went wrong during surgery he is prepared. I had to wait a while to get an appointment with him but what would you expect from the best everybody wants him. He was definetly worth the wait. I would ask Dr. G office what his death rate is and then call Dr. Katsis office and ask what his is. You will find a difference I gaurantee. I did the research. Good luck no matter who you choose. God Bless You! Miss Mary
