Hello Tracy-I had RNY laproscopically done on 3/1/05 by Dr Luis Gorospe in Tulsa OK at Southcrest Hospital. I would recommend him and his staff for anyone having this surgery. He is considered one of the top surgeons in the nation and has been doing surgical procedures for decades. He has a dedicated staff that takes care of his patients at Southcrest hospital which has a dedicated wing just for bariatric patients. He is so great at what he does he has done over 3000 procedures to date and he has it down to a science now. I know Tulsa may be further to go to get this surgery, but I would trust Dr Gorospe with my life again and again. He only does bariatric surgery now, but he has so much experience at all types of surgery. I had some health problems going into surgery which is mainly what caused my complications and you can read my profile to find out how great the surgeons and staff where who took care of me. Also you can read Dr Gorospe's website at www.centerforsurgicalweightloss.com to find out more about him and his patients. I cannot say enough good things about my surgeon, but I assure you I am so thankful that I did this for myself. I am a little over 3 weeks post-op, and I feel fine aside from my own thoughts about my loss of comfort food. It's a difficult transition but so worth all the effort. I have lost 28lbs so far, and my body feels so much easier to live with. I went to a concert at Cain's ballroom the other night and stood on my feet for over 2hours with no back pain. I had gone to a concert there exactly 1 month before and after 2 hours standing with my big belly pulling on my lower back muscles I was in excrutiating pain with no where to sit down. I was just hurting and worn out when it was over in Feb but not the same in March. Oh well, I hope that helps you to make a decision on your choices around the state. I know that people from all over Arkansas and Kansas come to Dr Gorospe because he is the best. Thanks for listening.
Thank You all very much for the info...I think my other worry about this surgey is that i could feel sick all the time ...and think about no sugar boo hoo ...i know i need to do something ..before this takes over my life ...right now i am at 309lbs and i am only 5'1, so i know i am carring a whole person on me...but this is a very big step for me ...there is so much paper work you have to do and i am so scared that i might talk myself out of the surgey ..if it takes to long...i want it now ..not in mths from now ...does anyone feel my pain and understand me ???
I second the recommendations for Dr.s Pearce & Floyd, but I am biased as Dr. Pearce did my surgery & Dr. Floyd my sister!!!!
I have also heard great things about Dr. Keith & FGoropspe (If you want to travel to Tulsa)...
One of the best things to do it attend a seminar.
Personally, I know that Edmond Medical Center does them at least twice a month. You can call them to get signed up. THey awill provide you with basic information regarding what you need to submit for approval. You also hear more about WLS surgery, its effects & hear from post op patients who have been through it themselves.
I am not sure what the other surgeons offer. You can call their offices & check...
Whatever you do, this is something that you do have to put work into.
Both pre-op & post-op.
You have to change your lifestyle in order for the tool that the doctor gives you to work. This is definitely not a quick fix!
As for the sugar, you will learn to live with out it. I admit to being a huge candy fiend. But, is my health more important than the king size snicker I used to eat every day? Darn right it is......

Dr. Pearce
Pounds lost = Just a number
Living life= Priceless
Kudoos for not just taking my opinion on Dr Pearce and asking around. I do think still he is one of the best doctors there is in this field and you could not go wrong using him.
Dont worry about the sugar!!!! There are so many options out there to replace the sugar and most of them taste pretty good once you get the real sugar out of your system. Like I've told you, I can eat what ever I want to as long as it is in reaonable amounts.
Please remember that your mind is a powerful tool. Dont worry yourself to death about what can happen, educate yourself and make decisions that you are comfortable with. If you are unsure about things your mind will focus on those things. You need to know that you are making the right decision for yourself. You know you can call me if you ever need too!!!!
