Anyone use him? I hear he is DA BOMB. If my insurance finally comes through after all the hoops they have made me jump through, then I plan to use him. I know he is on all the boards of bariatric surgery etc...Any more info would help. Yes, I have already met him, just wanted to hear some personal stories as well. thanks!

Hey there, yes you are correct he is DA BOMB. I am now 8days post-op and though there were minor complications during my surgery he and Dr. Kirk took great care of me. I was never worried about the procedure, but I found out about a few problems beforehand because he is so thorough with the pre-screenings. I found out I had a heart murmur from Dr Dobratz, sleep apnea from Dr Worley (who is awesome by the way), and Dr Kirk himself diagnosed me with GERD from the EGD procedure I went through before surgery. I visited with Dr Cashman for my psychological evaluation, and had to go through a sleep study for Dr Worley at the Tulsa Sleep Center to find out about whether I had sleep apnea. That Tulsa Sleep Center is awesome-super comfy bedrooms and really nice people who watch over you while you sleep. I would only recommend if you think you have apnea to do these appointment first because I was too close to surgery time and didn't get my breathing machine for home use before the surgery. I think if I had had my own machine it would have made the hospital stay a lot better. I also had to have an ultrasound on my heart and my gall bladder which hurts while they are pressing on you but is pretty painless otherwise. Then of course, during pre-op screening you will give plenty of blood for the bloodwork, but it's not so bad because Southcrest is a really good place for this type of surgery. My only complaint about Southcrest is the accounting people may have problems determining the correct amounts you owe depending on your insurance. The bariatric ward at Southcrest is great, and the ICU personnel are awesome so caring and helpful and tell you exactly what you need to know like they can read your mind. Otherwise, everything went ok and now I am home and doing fine. I think I must have lost about 15lbs already and can see it in my face slimming down. Hope that helps you feel even better about your decision to go with Dr Gorospe. If it helps I know several people who have had the surgery with him and they are all very pleased with their results. Good Luck!

While in surgery the drs told my mother that I had lost a lot of blood, and when I was in ICU afterwards they had a difficult time waking me from anesthesia. These things were minor and I made it through just fine otherwise they said the surgery went perfectly. I was on a breathing machine because of my sleep apnea and my pulmonologist was being very cautious since I was going in and out of consciousness and the drugs were slowing down my breathing but it's a very good thing they all took good care of me because I was sent home after just 2nights in the hospital and doing just fine. I have really mininal pain now and never any problems with pneumonia, fever, nothing else just waiting on my incisions to heal.

Please check out www.surgassoc.com too. I began with Dr. G, but because of insurance had to change doctors. I used Dr. Fisher with surgical associates. They are awesome. Cyndi 08/16/2004 -100 lbs.
