still waiting & need info about Dr keiths plan
I am three weeks into approval process. I called insurance the other day they just said I would get a letter when they made their decision. They said they had all the paperwork and knew that the surgery was set for the 20th December. I didn't even know that I have not even seen anyone from Dr Keiths office since the seminar. So I guess what I would like to ask is if the insurance gives the okay how fast will all this go possibly and can anyone share what Dr keith requires for the pre op diet I work at a school and the 20th would be my first day off for Christmas vacation. But getting any appointments in between now and then would be hard to get time off since I just had a week off for thanksgiving and only have three weeks before more time off.
I had Lap RNY in March. Dr. Keith has a 10 day pre-op diet. The first seven days is low fat that includes having protein supplements. The last 3 days is a liquid diet. I would suggest calling his office and find out what all you need to do. As far as insurance goes, mine didn't get approved until after I completed the nutrition, psych eval and physical performance. After I got the approval Dr. Keith's office set my surgery date and I had to have pulmonary functions test. There is one more class that you'll go to before surgery and before the 10 day pre-op diet. Call Dr. Keith's office and they tell you what you need to do next. If you need any more help, email me. I have a copy of his pre-op diet, just gimme a few days and i can send it to you.

If you are willing to wait you can work most of your appointments into one or two days. This wasn't an issue with me, but I know they will work with you on your times.
The key is whether your insurance is going to continue to pay for WLS after Jan 1....many aren't for 2005.
Good luck with your journey. Feel free to contact me if you have questions.

My surgery is also scheduled for 20 Dec. I am unsure of the pre op diet myself. I have completed my appointments and I am scheduled to attend an all day event on 9 Dec at Norman Hospital. They go over the final things and then you meet with the dietician again to go over the 10 day diet, that I start on the 10th. They also do the final pre-op tests that day. Their office is very helpful and friendly. Hopefully they will work with your schedule.
I will keep you in my prayers and hope everything works out for you.

½ salad is about one cup I put lettuce, carrots, a tablespoon of cheddar cheese, and some croutons for some more crunch, and lowfat dressing.
½ a lowfat sandwich is 1 piece of bread, one slice of lowfat cheese, one slice of turkey or chicken sandwich meat, and any condiment without sugar or fat. That left me with MUSTARD!! It's surprising just how good this part really is on this diet.
