Post op questions and blues...

I am 5 days post op and although the pain of the incision is not bad I am experiencing a tremendous amount of burping. Is this normal? I had the VBG and I am having trouble with food and water. I can only eat an ounce of food and am nauseated most of the time and before I loved water, now I am struggling to get it down because of my nausea. I wake up during the night and in the morning with my stomach rumbling and my constant friend nausea. This struggle is making me doubt my decision. Help! Any suggestions?

I hear many people with complaints about burping. My only suggestion would be to further decrease and slow your intake, and call your surgeon if you continue to suffer with nausea. I still rumble like crazy , it can be downright amusing at times. I also want to say it has been very common for post-ops to wonder about their decision in these first few days. It is very common to feel those blues. Try to remember this is temporary, and hang in there!

Hi Caryl I am 2 weeks 1 day post op. I had lap rny. I am feeling ok as far as pain. Still tired. And have lots of nausea too and the burps-which are nasty tasting. I went in for my 2 week post op visit, I am down 18 pounds. My doc said the burps and nausea would get better with time. I am sure that is not the best news. My nausea had decreased a lot. I was throwing up in the hospital, it was gross. The more I have to do and move around the nausea isn't as bad and helps me to get tha****er down, I am up to about 24 ounces a day. It is very hard to get the water down. Good luck Sarah

Thanks Sarah! I weighed at 6 days post op and was down 18lbs too! I know most of that is water weight but it was nice to feel the bones on my chin again. My burping is starting to become "occassional" but I still have the nausea. I am trying my best to keep the water coming so I don't get dehydrated. Did you go back to work yet? I tried to on Wednesday of this week and my body said NO WAY! Good luck! Caryl

NP..I don't have a job outside the home now. I wanted to wait til after my surgery before I started looking. I have felt really good the past 2 days, but I still have a hard time standing in one place for very long...I just feel like I will pass out if I dont move or sit down. My weight is at a stand still right now, but I know it will pick up again soon. I had some tortillia soup from Monterey's tonight, I ate the broth mostly, and it was so yummy. That is great about the burping. I personally can't imagine going back to work so soon after surgery. I hope you feel well enough to go back soon. Sarah
