RNY LAP???
well here is the deal I am so confused with the pre op diet. I don't have a date yet, but I am approved so hopfuly not much longer. Anyone doing the low carb high protien thing please tell me what your doing, what is the total carbs per day you should be eating. I haven't found much good info on the web and my nurse has me more confused than before I called. Not to sound like a whine bag here, I thought I would have to do that kinda diet about 2 weeks before surgery. I am going to go cold turkey on soda on Monday. Wish me luck. Please if you have any info on this please please share.
Have a great day
Sarah
Ps
I had a friend who had this done RNY open and she didn't have to do the low carb thing, so I was wondering if that makes a difference.
Here's a copy of my Doc's 10 day pre-op diet. I printed off a copy and put it on my Frig. Let me know if you have any questions.
Happy thoughts,

½ salad is about one cup I put lettuce, carrots, a tablespoon of cheddar cheese, and some croutons for some more crunch, and lowfat dressing.
½ a lowfat sandwich is 1 piece of bread, one slice of lowfat cheese, one slice of turkey or chicken sandwich meat, and any condiment without sugar or fat. That left me with MUSTARD!! It's surprising just how good this part really is on this diet.
Sarah:
My Dr. is Dr. Fisher w/Surgical Associates, so here is what I did. My first consultation with him was on June 24, 2004. After that consult I started a low-carb diet - at least 4 days per week. I usually had whatever I wanted on the weekends. When I knew I would be getting a call for surgery soon, on August 2, I started a strict low-carb diet. I usually ate for lunch a hamburger steak, cottage cheese and tomatoes OR a chef salad. For supper I would cook steak or make tuna salad and eat that with celery and cream cheese. Just try to have less that 30 to 40 carbs per day - what I did is if I had 40 carbs one day, I tried 30 the next. Then, about 5 days before your surgery you will go on a liquid diet - which is one of the stages in the bari-bible, then the day before surgery you get clear liquids.
I hope this helps.

Thanks guys for the reply. I plan Monday on starting this low carb thing like I should. I think I like the ideal of doing 4 or 5 days a week and not the weekends at first. I am starting to feel a little better about this. Today I blended about a tablespoon of vanilia pudding in with my protein drink and it was a little more tolerable. Thank you both for sharing. It really helps.
