A little Bummed

Well I thought I would be jumping through the last of the hoops today to get my approval and a surgery date, I guess I was wrong. I went to see the pulmonologist today, well actually I saw the PA for Dr. Grode at Edmond Medical Center. The first thing I got from her was a quiz on what I had done prior to trying to have surgery. I am not sure if she was trying to grill me on my psychological well being or my medical need. She told me straight out that she was opposed to weight loss surgery, and continued to let me know how she felt through the entire exam. At first she didn't have any of my test results and told me she couldn't give medical clearance until she got the test results....well she kept me in the office for about 45 minutes and in that time she had managed to get most of my test results. She ordered a bunch of blood testing before she would make any decision. Oh well maybe I am just over reacting, has anybody else had this kind of trouble from the pulmonologist?

WOW Kenny set me up with Dr. Cole in the same building as Dr. Floyd/Pearce. He was very, very detail oriented as well, but was the first doc that was bold enough to say, "This surgery WILL save your life." If you don't like what this doc said see if Kenny will set you up with him. He is a bit gruff at first but I was very impressed when I left his office.

I don't have any words of advice, except to echo what you have already heard here. I have to say though, you look really familiar. What do you do in Norman, if you don't mind my asking? I have been around Norman since 1990 for one thing or another and am curious if our paths have crossed. Good luck - perhaps the PA will not let her personal opinions override your medical necessity and will keep the ball rolling for you!

Well I have been in and out of Norman several times since 1991. Hmmm places you may have seen me. I worked for Target in Norman for about 2 years, I was a member of CUUPS for a while, and I love killing time at bookstores. I am also a Renn Faire junkie, so if you are involved in that scene we could have crossed paths. I also did a short stint working for York. I have also been told I have an evil twin, that runs around doing things I'm not suppose to do or that my wife wouldn't approve of....lol If anything sounds familliar or if you want to chat more you can email me at [email protected] . Oh btw anybody that wants to email me or chat sometime feel free to use the same email. I am with receiving emails from anybody except those wanting to cure my thinning hair or interested in selling me "performance" enhancing drugs....

thats right...dont let someone elses opinion deter you. only YOU know how hard YOUR OWN life is, and how your co morbidities affect you. Im very curious because the name doesnt sound familiar. I went to Dr. Cole also and he was fabulous and very pro surgery.

I haven't got to talk to Kenny yet, he is out of the office until Monday. I was under the impression that Dr. Grode was one of the pulmonologist that they have used before. All I was able to see was the Physicians Assistant, Kay Mason-Morton. (not sure if that is the name or not, I may have the hyphenated last name switched) She didn't say she wouldn't reccomend me for the surgery, but as far as I know she hasn't made a decision yet. I went to have the blood work done today. She wanted a report on my cholesterol and a couple of other things. I am in a much better mood today, having a place like OH to vent my frustrations has been a lifesaver. I think one of the things she didn't like about me was that other than being 130 lbs overweight I am in really good health. My blood pressure runs normal most of the time, unless I have a doctor stressing me out. I don't have diabetes or hypertension. From my EKG I am on my way to developing hypertension and heat problems. My thoughts on the matter are "fix it" before it becomes a problem. That is one of the biggest problems in the US right now, is they don't believe in performing preventative medicine. The "Big Drug Companies" have to much invested in fixing you once your broken than keeping you from ever breaking in the first place. Oh well enough of that, you got to forgive me, occasionally I get a bit politico and spout off....lol Thanks to everybody that has offered their suggestions and positive comments. I know that worst case scenario, I see another doc and things are only delayed a bit. Dennis
