At least Five Surgeries in one day!

Hello everyone, I am a pre-op and went to my first support group meeting tonight. I had a great time, learned much and enjoyed the rest of the group. However, I learned four others had the same surgery date with the same doctor as myself. To me, this is scary. I am not sure if there are anymore scheduled on this date, but five surgeries in one day seems quite excessive. I am nervous as it is as the date is coming up in a few weeks. Please help!! Has anyone else heard of this practice? Any input would be most appreciated. Thank you. Camille

Hey Camille, Yes Dr. Keith usually stacks surgeries. Mine was scheduled for 9:30 to begin with. One before and two after me, 11:30 & 1:30. By the time the surgery date actually got there, I was bumped to 7:30 and I was his only case that day. They initially schedule to be able to reschedule. Don't be surprised if you don't get bumped up on your pre-op surgery visit a couple of days before. BUT..if being fourth in line really bothers you that much (it would me) you might want to consider rescheduling and asking to be 1st or 2nd. Feel free to email or call if you have other questions. Va

Hi, I am sure you are nervous we all were. Hang in there. About the stacking surgeries I cannot give you any help on that one but I would have to agree with the previous post. Ask if you can be the first or second... It may ease some of your anxiety. Keep us updated, Dianna

You know, i understand your feeling weird about it.YES, most doctors do have "surgery days" so that they can be in the office on the other days. But, hubby pointed something out to me the other day. I was third in line the day I had mine. Remember, these doctors are NOT doing surgeries non stop ie: all nite, 24 hours without sleep kind of stuff; and are not doing emergency room either. They have a normal work day just like anyone else does. Most of these surgeries take approx 2 hours. I know that for myself, I trusted doctor pearce and when i saw him the day of surgery, he look raring to go!! lol....so, I guess if you feel really squeemish about it, see about getting it changed. But also remember that this is their work, what they do and they are NOT doing hospital duty along with it and this is all they do in that day. does that make sense??? HUUggZzzz and good luck!!!

Thank you all for your words of reassurance. I talked with the doctor's PA and discussed my fears and concerns. I have decided to keep my surgery as is and will have a blessing and offer many prayers before surgery. I know that all will be well if it is meant to go well. Again, thank you for your empathy and well-wishes. It means so much when I can post a note and have others who have experienced something similar give me advice and know that they do understand. Have a great day and I will keep you posted. God Bless you all! Camille
