HELP IN TULSA, OK
Have been researching, checking referances, patient comments, surgeries for the past two days. Stumbled upon this site. Would anyone be able to share their experience wiith Dr. Gorospe / South Crest Hospital Bariatric Unit in Tulsa. This is totally the scariest, well the next scarriest thing in my life but I feel desperate at this point to make a good sound decision to find a way to lose this weight and to get out of this wheel chair and walk again. It's been five years since my "freak accident" when I lost my right leg and became wheel chair bound and gained even more weight. Is there a group/meeting/info discussion where I can get more info from Drs. patients etc. Appreciate greatly any responses. You all are so brave and courageous and it's hard to believe there are so many out there when I thought I was the only one going through this nightmare. Much thanks.
Hi May,
I know that Dr. Gorospe has a support group but not sure when the meetings are. I am sure that if you called his office they would give you a date and time. He does have a web site that you could check out. I think you can find him through the Obesityhelp surgeon search.
Hang in there. This is a scary decision. I would do it again in a heart beat. Check out my profile to read my journey http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/profile.phtml?N=p1064623741 .
It may help you. Feel free to email me anytime.
You can come to the meeting here in tulsa. Obesity Help is going to have an all day event Saturday July 31st with doctors and vendors. This will be an awesome place for you to get the information you need.

May, Dr. Gorospe has a public seminar the second Monday of every month with many post op and pre-op patients. There is a support group on line for all Tulsa area folks, regardless of who they choose as a doctor and Dr. Gorospe has his own on-line support group. Dr. Gorospe has literally thousands of patients---including several who were wheel chair bound when they had surgery.
E-mail me privately (or anyone else who needs more info about Tulsa) and I will get you hooked up with the on-line group.

MAY:
I WILL BE HAVING SURGERY WITH DR. GOROSPE ON AUGUST 16TH! YOU ARE NOT ALONE WITH YOUR FEELINGS. I THINK I HAVE GONE THROUGH DIFFERENT PHASES OF WORRY ABOUT ALL OF THIS. THE CLOSER I GET TO THE BIG DAY THE BETTER I FEEL ABOUT THE DECISION I HAVE MADE. MORE PEOPLE BENEFIT FROM HELPING THEMSELVES WITH WLS THAN DON'T! DR. GOROSPE HAS A GREAT SUPPORT TEAM FOR AFTER THE SURGERY!
HOPE THIS HELPED A LITTLE!

Hi May--
From another newbie---Welcome. I have found this and the main message board to be VERY helpful.
As for Dr. Gorospe---he is having a seminar on August 6. I know because I am scheduled to go. Because I am also attending the seminar of Drs. Pearce and Floyd in Edmond, I am probably going to use Dr. Floyd (he's on my insurance) in Edmond, but Gorospe has an excellent reputation. He's done hundreds of surgeries which gives him experience in this field which reduces your risk, etc.
If I decide on Dr. Floyd I promise to cancel my reservation with Dr. G. I just wanted to have a space reserved for me.
When you schedule for this-plan for the whole day. You are to be there at 9:00 and plan to stay until 2:00. You will have your consult with the doctor during this time. I do know of at least one patient of his and he was highly recommended to me.
As for why I will probably go with Dr. Floyd----I wanted to go somewhere "away" from my backyard. Good luck in your journey.
Mine is very close to starting.

Dr. G. was my surgeon, and yes, they do have support group meetings. I am pretty sure they are the second tuesday of the month, each month. Call his office and speak with Lita, and she will be able to give you specifics.
He is a really good surgeon, and I would recommend his skill highly.
Good luck!!!
