My surgery is scheduled for July 12, laproscopic gastric RNY. I just wondered if anyone knew what the lifting restrictions are after surgery. I have a 12 month old that weighs 21 pounds. I am going to stay with my parents after surgery so that my mom can help with the kids, but I just wondered how long it will be before I can pick the baby up, because I won't be able to go back home until I can. Thanks! Rox

My doc. said nothing over 20 lbs. for at least 4 weeks. I however have a 3 year old, weighs 32 lbs. that I had to lift the other day. She was being attacked by several wasps in the backyard. I don't think I strained anything. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Good luck.

My doc picked up my purse in the exam room at the end of my final pre-op visit. He said, "Nothing heavier than this for 6 weeks post-op." I weighed it when I got home. It came in at just under 9 pounds. Hernia's are the main concern. Good Luck!! Happy thoughts, Va Was/Am/Wannabe 232/175/130

Just PLEASE be very careful!! I had two incisional hernia repairs, about 3 months apart; just after my youngest was born...and OOOOOOHhhhh that 2nd one was AWFUL!! and all because i didnt listen to the doc who told me to have someone HAND me the baby when sitting down and NOT bend into the crib to get him out....please please be careful and steer clear of hernia trouble!! I havent even HAD my WLS approved yet, but I know that hernias are top of the "careful" list with me so....dont be askin ME to help you move NUTHIN"! rofl!! you take care of yourself !
