Anyone used Dr. Henry Pearce?
Hi,
I am getting ready to start trying to arrange to have surgery as soon as school is out for the summer. I have been told Dr. Henry Pearce is one of the docs on my insurance IF I can get approved. I really don't even know where to start. I am 100-120 pounds overweight. What do I need to do first? Does anyone know when his next seminar is? Is he a good surgeon?
I am a nurse from Lawton, so a little medical knowledge and knowing all the things that could happen make this a little bit scarier. I would appreciate any information I can get. Thanks!

Hi Janie. Dr. Pearce didn't do my surgery but from everything I have heard about him, he has this surgery down to a science. When I went to the seminar, he spoke and he seems to be an amazing man. I guess my doctor works with him alot. Also, at the support group meetings, they sure sing his praises. Good luck on starting your journey. I think if you look on the calendar on this site, it will tell you when the next seminar is.

hello! I have not had surgery yet, still messing with insurance crap, but my friend had Dr Pearce as her surgeon. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! job he did. She had no problems whatsoever. She says she would do it again in a heart beat. She lost about 150 and it will be 2 years in July, and still doing great. I believe he also teaches Drs at U of AZ on this procedure, and I hear he is the number one doctor in this part of the country and people have come to him from surrounding states.
Good luck, I think you will do great.

Dr Pearce did my surgery March 23. He is wonderful. His staff is very curteous and efficient. The staff at Edmond is fantastic. Just call his office and let them know you are interested in WLS and they will set you up for the next seminar. What insurance do you have? Different insurances have different criteria when it comes to WLS. Mine didn't require anything at all. Just a BMI over 40. Holly, at Dr. Pearce's, will help you out with all of that. I know what you mean about having a little medical knowledge. I was a medical assistant for an OB/GYN for 8 years, so I knew about risks and all the termnology. Dr. pearce is very thorough in his preop evalution -- he really makes sure that you are in optimal health and does preventative measures to guard against DVT. I cannot sing his praises enough. You are on the lower end of things as was I -- I have lost 36lbs since my surgery and have had no problems at all.
If you need anything else feel free to email me.
Good luck.

Thank you for responding. I am scheduled for his seminar next Thursday May 27th. I am very excited. My insurance is Waterstone Benefits Administrators. They had an exclusion policy last time I called them close to a year and a hal*****hen my husband came home one day a couple weeks ago and told me several nurses at the hospital were having WLS so I called them again. They would have paid 100% if I had called a month earlier but they had just changed again and were now paying only 50%. But hey, that is still better than nothing. Your web site is adorable. I enjoyed reading it. I forgot, did you have your surgery laproscopic or open? How long were you in the hospital? If you don't mind me asking, how tall are you and what was your start weight? I am about 5'5 and weigh about 260. Will you be at his seminar Thursday?

Dr Pearce did my surgery in October 2002. He would be my recommendation for anyone having surgery. He & his office staff are great. He also did my hernia repair & abdominoplasty in 08/03.
He is one of the "leaders" in the formation of the Bariatric Surgery program at Edmond Hospital.
I do not know when his next seminar is, but you could find out by calling his office 340-0511.
Please email me if you have any questions on anything else.
