Hey folks. I'm new to all this. I posted a message yesterday, but it seems to be gone now . . . anyway, I'm looking for anyone with information about a posting from over a week ago about a BCBS covering the Lap-Band. The posting mentioned an article in the paper about BCBS changing their policy. But I've also read that they are removing coverage of certain surgeries in January of 2005. When I first read the posting I wasn't yet a member and unable to email the person who posted. Unfortunately, at the time that I read that posting my machine crashed. Well, now I'm up and running at home and registered, but now I can't find that posting. So, maybe someone can help me with info. I'm trying to get my ducks in a row to avoid as much grief as possible. I've done all my pre-op testing and will have my psych finished up this week. Anyway, I'm looking for info to provide my employer. There is a pretty big exclusion . . . Thanks in advance! dj

I am not sure about an article, but I have BC/BS of MN. So far the letter I got from them last week said they needed my Psych. eval and Nutrtitional eval sent to them. THings seem to be going smootly so far. They cover the surgery if it is medically necessary. I don't think the insurance companies can be that different just because there offices are located in different states. From what the other WLS ers say if there is an exclusion medical necessity can pu**** on through sometimes. Jacque

By the way, I read your profile and I too have two girls, 9 & 6! I would really hate to have my future health depending on my employer's understanding of the whole procedure. That has to be frustrating for you. I do home childcare for 5 kiddos and I too need the fastest recovery time, I know where you are coming from.... Jacque

Jacque, thanks for the reply. I've found out this week that I will have to issue a letter to the Benefits council at my job. I'm afraid if I push too hard, I will jeopardize my job. I'm looking into financing the surgery. I'm really afraid that I won't be able to have it done. It's depressing really, but I'll get over it. It was nice to "chat" with you.

I live in Florida and BC/BS will no longer cover surgery here as of January 2005. Good Luck!
