Denise, I had my surgery Oct 7, 2003 and went back to work on Oct 20th. It was one day short of two weeks, however I have an office job and was able to work very flexable hours. I only worked 1/2 days and if I had a partically bad day I left early. I won't lie to you it was tough to go back that quick, and most likely slowed down recovery a bit. But I would do it all again.

I was off work for 6 weeks. I am glad that I took that much time. I am a programmer, and don't have a physically stressful job, but things did not work out as I thought. What happened to me were major shifts in my meds, etc. I was severely hypertensive, taking several medications, etc. By day 10 post-op, I was so tired I could not move or stay awake. What I was experiencing was a huge drop in BP. I was still taking the same medications at the same dosage. It is hard to function at 85/55 when you are accustomed to 140/90. Once we got my meds adjusted I was fine and alert. I was blessed to have an employer who understood my needs (I requested three weeks off; they changed it to 6), plenty of vacation and sick leave available and a liberal short-term disability benefit. For the first time in my life, I took the time. I would encourage you to take as much time as you can afford. The changes in your body will be monumental, and you need the time to adjust. It worked for me. I am 5 months post-op, and have lost about 105 pounds.
