Insurance coverage?!
Okay so this may seem crazy but I was so excited to have RNY only to find out my husbands insurance doesn't cover it! Who all has been approved via insurance in OKLAHOMA and what company do you work for and what insurance do you have... I am desperate enough to go work somewhere I know covers RNY just to be able to have the surgery!! Thanks so much guys I really need this info!

Supposedly Starbucks has pt positions that have insurance benefits and they do cover WLS.
I am a military dependent, so my surgery was free and my breast reduction I am having Friday is also free. I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to have my RNY.
I hope you can work things out and get some medical benefits to cover your WLS.

I MY RNY 5-5-09 Life is Good
I worked at hospitals that wouldnt cove the wls and after 7 years of hopeing to be able to get the surg my husbands insurance covered it and i also went to work at St Johns Hosp and I heard that insurance coveres it as well> I was a as needed staff so at the time I didnt have insuranse with st johns...
I work for HCA/OU Medical and I had a Duodenal Switch done in April My insurance is Aetna. I had it done in Denton, TX for several reasons (a) the hospital part is covered 100% if I go to an HCA facilitiy, and (b) the DS isn't done in this state. No it wasn't done open it was completely laporscopic, and No I don't have bowel issues and Yes I take vits but so will you. I know several people who have the DS and none of them have had any problems. I also know several that have had problems but they didnt use the same surgeon and they were/aren't compliant. This was the best decision I've ever made. Good luck with finding coverage and completing you're ultimate goal.

I work for St Johns medical center..unfortunately they do not cover wls. I am getting mine through my husbands employer, Tulsa bus plant otherwise known as International corporation of oklahoma, who has aetna insurance. I think if you can get on with someone with aetna (with the exception of tulsa school system) the employer usually covers it...and also united health care coverage is really good for wls. I am not sure how far u live from tulsa..but Metlfe is hiring still i believe and they have united health care and cover 100%.
