Any of you use Dr. Sawan for PS?
Marsha,
I'm right there with you. I wasn't impressed with Dr. Sawan's website, however, I have heard nothing but great things about him from several people who used him. I did a consult with Dr. Panchel and Dr. Goonce but have one scheduled in a week or so with Sawan. Unless he just really rubs me wrong I plan to go with him. I asked Dr. B. if it was his family member would he still refer him and he didn't hesitate, said yes and that his family members have actually used him. That was all I needed to hear.
I'm worried about the down time because I am VERY active. I am choosing November 1st as my time frame because I figure I won't be biking or running as much during Nov and Dec anyway. But, I need to be healed up by Jan 1st for marathon training....considering doing the full marathon this year.

Amy and Russell,
You guys crack me up! From someone who's had PS once, I know how exciting it is to show those scars off! I'm pretty proud of mine from my pani. As for the drugs....I know that too! I'm Ms. Bashful, never showing off....um well things! LOL The night after I had my pani, my two best friends from work came to Baylor to see me. Let's just say they saw more of me than I'd ever seen! I couldn't wait to show them that that apron was gone....I forgot what that apron had always hidden! LOL Glenna still gives me a hard time about that!
I guess my problem with Dr. Sawan stems from a contest I was a semi-finalist in at KOCO, the extreme makeover Oklahoma, several years ago. Not the fact that I didn't win.....but when I went to his office for my consultation, he brought in another doctor...intern...whatever he was...and they stood there talking about me in their native languge, THEN Dr. Sawan left the room to get a camera, with me stark naked, and soooo embarrassed, and he left the door open. I really think I wouldn't have even thought anything about that, but the talking in their native language which was obviously about me as they were picking up skin etc....THAT bothered me badly! Was I too sensitive? Probably...but those things have a way of sticking with someone who is already so beat down from a lifetime of obesity, it just kind of topped the cake.
That being said, I do not think Dr. Walton or Dr. Broussard would endorse someone who embarrassed their clients. I am hoping it was a one time thing, and he was just insensitive to how sensitive I really was/am about my weight and excess skin.
Thanks guys! I'm going to try to get an appt. with Dr. Sawan before school starts. We'll have to see.
Hugs,
Marsha

That would have freaked me out too!!! I bet I would have said something to them.....like...ummm no talking about me where I can't understand what you are saying. I will be on guard for that kind of thing when I go see him and let you know how it goes. I can't wait to have this apron removed but will have to remember what it is hiding before I go showing my stuff! LOL!!!

I have decided to push my insurance comapny really hard to get a panni covered. I am seeing Sawan for a 2nd consultation on Monday, 8/2. I can't say I am a real fan of Sawan's personality but hey, I am hiring him for his surgical skills not to pal around with. If insurance refuses (please pray this is not the case) then I am going to see if I can volunteer to have a student (intern, 4th year student, resident) do my surgery for a drastically reduced cost. I really don't care what my incision looks like. Whatever I end up with is better than what I am dealing with now.
I can't tell you all how much my self-esteem improved with just the pani. I felt like a whole new person. I had had my apron for so long that I had permanent indentions to my thighs. They aren't so bad now, but that's just because my thighs hang down to my knees! LOL I wouldn't mind having an intern do my surgery also...it's not like they're supervised.
I guess my problem with Sawan besides everything I already said was there was just no compassion. The surgeon I saw in Dallas was just the opposite....and I may have to go back to him for insurance purposes, but like Dr. Walton said....the hospital there in Edmond is like home now and I'd sure like to be there for my surgery. I also feel like maybe Dr. Sawan will know how to work the insurance company and I don't think the clinic in Dallas really cares whether insurance pays or not. That was the feeling I got there when I had my pani. As a matter of fact, the morning that Dr. Pin came in to do my surgery he pointed out to me how fortunate I was to have an insurance company that actually payed.
I hope insurance comes through for us all! It sure helps out!
You girls just don't be showing off your stuff! LOL
