dad had surgery and having problems
well my dad had gastric bypass monday here in norman with dr keith. the surgery went well but he is having heck with the aftermath. we are still here in norman. he is about to get his 2nd round of 2 units of blood in 2 days but the nurse tells us that is not uncommon. he has walked down the hall several times today but now they want him to stay in bed til he gets his blood in plus the nurse said not to make him walk every hour like we were just do it every couple of hours! what the heck? i know different dr's and different hospital but i was always told that the sooner you got up and around the sooner you get better. he had issues with pottassium level being too high and today they gave him pottassium cause it was too low. i dont know what his body is doing but he is very upset and disappointed. talk about buyers remorse.....he has got a double dose of it. i keep telling him that he wont even remember all the problems he has had a year from now when hes all skinny but he assures me that he will never forget this if he lives to be 100!!! anyway would like to ask for prayers and thoughts for my dad to hang in there! thanks
Kimberly,
I have been reading your posts on Facebook and on here. I hope your dad is doing better tonight. I know he is having buyer's remorse right now, but like you told him, in a year he'll be so thrilled this boulder in the road will only be a memory. I am 19 months out from gastric bypass with Dr. Walton and I had six months of complications. 19 months and 140 lbs. later....I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I really never had buyer's remorse, but I hated being so sick and having that feeling that I'd never be back to myself again. I understand why they don't want him up while he's getting the blood transfusion, but why not afterwards? That's crazy. I'm praying for your dad and your family. I know it's hard on you all too. He'll get through this and look back with a smile.
Hugs!
Marsha

i guess different doctors have different rules they go by but i know getting up more would help him so much. he has had 2 back surgeries and 1 neck surgery and laying around in that bed is killing his back. im a little frustrated and hes a lot frustrated. his issues are not even with his incisions right now. he says his back and neck hurt way more than his tummy so i dont know. he also says hes going home today whether the doctor wants him to or not. i want him to go home but not if hes not getting better. guess we will wait and see what the doctor says this morning. thanks for all the prayers!
When I had my surgery, I had to stay in for an extra day for the same reason. I had a total of 4 units of blood in two days. I figured i was just "oozing" somewhere, but by the last of it I was doing great!!
You're right.....it is frustrating, but this will pass.........
