I finally got my approval (Yeah), but...
I'm questioning one thing. When I went to the seminar in January we were told that we would need several items one POSSIBLY being a Psych Eval IF the insurance company or Doctor ordered it. Well the last couple of weeks as the papers were submitted into Aetna I knew that I wouldn't need one per their bulletins. I had two different people in the doctors office tell me not to worry about it until we see what the Ins. company calls for. Needless to say I got approved and per the Ins co I didn't need one for them to approve me. Well as I went into the doctors yesterday we are going through everything that I've done which is everything but the Psych Eval and I'm like remember we spoke about this and I was told by you and one other person here in the office I didn't need to do it and she was like well the doctors ordering it. I'm like can I ask why when my Ins. Co. isn't ordering it based on my past and I really don't want to have to shell $ 200 out of pocket if it isn't necessary and my husband was sitting w/ me and just as confused and she came back and told me that the hospital is now requiring it so I asked if this was something new since the seminar and didn't get an answer. I'm tempted to call the hospital or have my patient advocate at Aetna call the hospital and see if what I'm being told is true. Regardless I'm having to do it to have the surgery but I feel very mislead what was told to us at the seminar and if this is a new hospital rule I don't have an issue w/ it but feel that the last couple of weeks I should have been told that even if my Ins Co doesn't require it the hospital still would so its not being done at the last minute. OK enough venting and thank you for listening...
Sorry you feel misled but maybe it's for the best. I liked meeting someone I knew I could talk to after surgery when my head has a hard time catching up with my body changes. I really think it's a good idea for everyone to have it if nothing but to establish a relationship for another support person.
I agree and don't have a problem doing it, just don't like being told one thing and then that isn't the case. As you know there is so much to wrap your head around as it is. I'm all for the additional support that is for sure... Just don't like being mislead thats all and can't wait to join you all on the losers bench.
Bummer that you feel mislead. Did they tell you at the seminar it was a requirement? It sounds like to me they didn't want you doing it until you had your approval from insurance, so as not to waste the money. But I could be wrong as I was not there.
Honestly I thought all bariatric programs require a psyc eval before surgery. It was the 1st thing I knocked out on my list.
I hope it all works out for you and we will save your seat on the losers bench.

They did bring it up at the seminar but stated it depended on your insurance and the docotor whether or not it would be required. I would have never left it to the last minute to do it had it been mandatory. I would have been fine while they were filing my insurance to say look lets get all this approved see what if anything the insurance company is going to require BUT just so you know if you are approved you still have to have this done. I have no problem seeing anyone at all but just don't like how they went about it. Thankfully my husband was at the seminar w/ me as well at the last meeting and I had notes from the seminar so that I'm not questioning myself on what was said. Just had to vent about it but happy to be moving forward and looking at sitting next to all of you.
