Hi Ya'll. I'm fairly new to this site, but love it so far. So much encouragement and information. Thanks for sharing your journeys.

I've got a week of liquids left to consume and it is getting harder. Not because I'm hungry or desire to eat, but everything tastes different from before. All the sugar free stuff tastes too sweet. Some drinks, like PoweradeONE Grape makes my stomach feel wide open and empty like a big space of nothing, then I end up running for the restroom. Did anyone else experience this weird feeling? And did your tastes change?

Also, I really miss milk, but tried some AES French Vanilla. It was great. The shakes and things taste ok or even good, but the clear liquids, even decaf tea with Splenda, are just weird.

Thanks in advance.

Everybody has some change in their taste buds after surgery, but it isn't the same for everybody. Try diluting your s.f. drinks with water. Try drinking hot herbal teas or clear broth. Unbelievably, iced tea no longer tastes good to me & I used to consume almost a gallon per day. Just keeping trying things 'til you find what works for you.

Dana, congratulations on your surgery. I am 13 months out. I had a lot of problems with drinking things. I still can't drink anything with caffiene in it.......it just hurts my pouch. I can't do anything creamy either. Once you start on your soft foods it will be alot better.

I had a really hard time with the liquid phase.  I couldn't do a whole lot of the Power Ade and the V-8 Splash.  I kept several cups by me so I could rotate what I was drinking and I couldn't do anything really hot or cold at all.  I couldn't tolerate the protein shakes very much at all.  I was lucky if I could choke down one a day. Eventually, I was making canned soup (clear broth) and draining the liquid and drinking that.

Of course, that first 1/4 of cottage cheese was heavenly!  I remember thinking it was the best thing in the world!  Just hang in there, you'll make it thru and you should already be noticing some weight come off, which is great motivation to stick to the plan!

Thanks ya'll.

Jen, I can hold most things. The shakes are ok. The first few days I couldn't do cold things. Today I realized one of the PowerAde Zeros is what is causing my runs to the bathroom. No more grape for me.

I weighed earlier tonight before Support Group. I'm down 7 lbs since surgery, but 42 since I started the WLS process.

One other note: I grew up in Stigler and spent many summers around your neck of the woods. :) Small world.

Welcome to the sleevers club first off! I hope you come visit us over in the sleevers forum (if you haven't already! hehe). I try to make sure I read the sleeve forum every day and greet new people, but of course life does happen!

Yeah, getting use to your new tummy is a real change and the gas, hiccups, burps and bloating feeling are all normal! We have all gone through it. As you go along you will come in time to understand and know your own stomach and works for you and it and what doesn't.

Taste buds are known to change for some, nearly all, so that's why on the boards you'll see posts saying don't go out and stock up on HUGE quantities of items, cause after surgery you might not like them. hehe

Keep on working your sleeve and following your eating plan and exercising sweety and you will do FAB!! I look forward to reading your progress and seeing you get to your goal!!

*big hugs*

Thanks for the encouragement, Suzi. I sure love this place. It's nice to be around people like me. I've moved up to soft foods now and its been a rough few days, but nothing I can't manage for a few more days.

Less Later! (I'd say more later, but I'd rather not. I like being less later. If you know what I mean. :)

Dana, first of all, congrats on your surgery.  My taste totally changed after surgery...can't drink water at all and was a big water drinker before surgery.  I brewed tea with fresh ginger and it worked very well for me.  The ginger really helps settle the tummy.  I just keep changing drinks all the time because everything keeps changing for me.  Good luck and keep us posted.
