Support Groups in the Tulsa Area?

Hi guys and gals!

I live around the Tulsa area but am having my surgery done by Dr B @ WW in Norman.  I'm hoping to have my surgery soon, I go in next week for my last monthly appt and they will submit all the record to the insurance company.  (Hoping for a quick approval as I've heard good things about Cigna).

Anyway, I know how important attending support groups can be after surgery but driving two hours to attend the ones at WW every week is not very reasonable so was hoping to find one or two that were closer to home that would welcome someone who had their surgery elsewhere. I figured this was a good place to ask

Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated!

Hi Breanna! Welcome!

I live just north of Pryor and also went to Dr. B @ WW... I LOVE that system and support group. There is a NEOK Bariatric Group that meets in Miami once a month. I hope to make it there one of these days, but it hasn't worked out yet.

I try to make it to support group about 1 a month or 1 every 6 weeks. It is hard, but fortunately with my job, I CAN go over on Thursday afternoon, attend support group and then stay the night in OKC and work from our office there. Although, it's not TOO terrible coming home after support group either...

I feel your pain. I know we don't know each other, but perhaps we could get to know one another and go to support group together some time.

Good luck to you! You will just LOVE Dr. B... I do anyways! He is AWESOME!!!

Hugs!

Hi Angie!

I would love to get to know you and it would be awesome to have someone around here that I could go to support groups with.  I know that I need to try go to at least one a month especially right after surgery.  I'm sure there is plenty I still need to learn,  and I know I will have questions plus just going somewhere every week will help to keep me accountable.  Miami isn't too far for me, heck of a lot better than driving clear to Norman once a week.  I don't mind the drive to WW but I think the cost of gas would eat me alive.

I do love Dr B ( just from the little bit of time I spend with him when I check in each month).  He is so patient with all my endless questions and seems to truly care about how you are and what's going on in your life.  If all dr's could be more like him, people wouldn't dread the office visits so often.

Thanks for the heads up on the meeting in Miami, do you know when each month it meets?

Thanks again for the helpful info!
