On average how long has everyone felt the pain from surgery?  I am on day 2 and I am sooo ready to move out of the "what did I do stage".  I figure it will Probably be well in to the 2 weeks but was curious what  everyone else felt and for how long.

Thanks

JC

I had my surgery by the same Doctor and I guess I was very lucky as I had not pain what so ever. I had my surgery on Friday and went back to work on Monday. I also had the VSG. I have been very lucky as I have had no problems with the surgery. The biggest problem I had was being hungry. They said it was head hunger, but I was just plain hungry. You will be so glad you had the surgery. I just wish I had done this years ago. I am 66 and have not felt this good in years. I have lost a total of 86 pounds and it was a year in February. I know a lot of people have lost a lot more weight than I have, but I think a lot of it has to do with my age. I also regret that I did not exercise enough at first, as I was working full time and just did not think that I had the time (BIG MISTAKE) I should have made the time. I have bought a treadmill now and walk at least 2 miles a day on it, and that is helping with the weight now. I just could not be anymore please. Our Doctor is great and he will help you anyway that he can. Good luck to you and know you will do great. If I can answer any question just let me know.

By day 10 I was pain free and feeling much better. By 4 weeks out I felt normal again.
I only took pain meds for the 1st 7 days and then I could manage without them.

Hang in there!!  Several of us got the VSG at around the same time and for all of us it seemed like after day 4 it was sooooo much better.  Day 3 or 4 is usually the worst and then you just turn the corner and the only issues are feeling fatigued and the mental battle of an all liquid diet.  I had buyers remorse for those first two weeks but it went away when I could eat mushys.

Never took any pain meds after I left the hospital two days after surgery.

Everything happens for a reason.

Thanks everyone.  Today is day 3 after the surgery and I do feel way better. I have increased my h2o intake to almost 100 oz today but still have a sore sholder from time to time.  Guess that will go away with time.  Tommorrow will be the first day back to the Gym.  Looking foward to it!

I had assorted aches and pains (including shoulder)for a couple of months, but little abdominal or surgical pain. Our exercise physiologist told me that my center of gravity was changing. Once I started to pay attention to how I sat, walked, etc. and adjusted for the smaller body, that went away. Moving and walking is a big help.
Good luck, Lois
