Carnation Sugarfree Instant Breakfast

I am in the" waiting on insurance approval" stage and I just found out my surgeron's office has changed the 10 days before surgery of Full liquid diet to 2 weeks of Carnation Instant only:4-5 shakes per day with only two allowed to be made with skim milk, the rest in water. From my calculations that's  60 cal x max 5shakes =300 calories per day( more with two skim milks) That seems drastic to me with trying to work full time up until the day of surgery. As  a nurse and taking call I could be up 24 hours in one day.  I have a support group meeting tomorrow to make sure this is the only option but just wanted to see what everyone thought about this.

I think that it is unrealistic to expect someone to do that for 10 days prior to surgery.
My Nutritionist said 3 CIB shakes w/skim milk a day and lite dinner (chicken breast w/steam veggies or small salad) in the evening. Then clear liquids only the day before surgery.
I would get with the doc or nut and get clarification on what your supposed to do prior to surgery.

I have to agree. I'd totally ask about it at your support group if there is a staff member from your surgeon's office. I'd mention your job and schedual.

Good luck hun!!

Thanks for everyone's input. I didn't get any answers at the meeting the other night. They call it support group but I would call it a informational/lecture seminar.  I did meet another woman who feels the same and we are going to try and organize a real support group for this side of Oklahoma.

The office did forward my question onto the surgeons but I haven't heard an answer yet. 300-480 calories per day for two whole weeks pre-op just has to be wrong.

What did you finally find out about this. My doc wants me taking 2 8oz liquid protein shakes and the third meal a salad and a little bit of meat. I am 3 and a half months out yet before I can even have the surgery due to insurance requirements. I can understand a couple weeks prior to the surgery but 3.5 months out. Did anyone have to do this as well?
