Killing Carbs - Episode 1

OK... so I MISS CARBS.... I miss eating mashed potatoes, mac-n-cheese, and rice. Even though it filled me up in like 2 bites... I MISS IT. I have been doing this low-carb no-carb thing again for like 2 weeks... trying to get back into the restrictive eating habits from Weight Wise... and lets just be honest... it SUCKS! I want to eat my roast first and follow it up with a bite of mashed potatoes. I want to serve chicken with wild rice. My bf is about to go nuts without some bread...(hey, if I can't have it, he can't either!) So after two weeks of this craziness, I haven't gained/lost a single pound (or ounce for that matter). It reminds me so much of pre-op days when you suffered with those stupid diets and rarely saw results. Anyway, I just needed to rant... rave... and ask one very important question: what's your take on Taco Bueno's pintos with cheese? (minus the chili sauce of course.... yuck) I have been eyeing them for a while... tried the fat-free beans from the mushy days of post-op and they just aren't the same.... boy I sure could use some "comfort" food right about now.....

I haven't had the Taco Bueno pintos and cheese but I LOVE the Taco Bell version.  Are you doing 0 carbs a day or are you doing something like 20?  I can't imagine not having any.  I'm not sure how many I'm getting but I'm loosing so I'm not going to question.  Good luck to you.

I don't know the product that you are talking about, but if they are low carb/non carb then I'd go for it!

I'm on the no carb kick as well! I can't eat them either or I lose NOTHING. UGH!! So, I'm like you and doing my best to abstane from them.

Best wishes and glad you came here to vent.

Unlike you I can't do away with carbs in my house since I have a husband and kids that eat cereal, oatmeal, and granola along with bread. hehe So I just have to turn my head and bite the bullet.

*supportive hugs*

This is my concern with getting WLS.  I have done low carb before...Atkin's, and a doctor-monitored protein-sparing modified fast.  And I lose the first 30lbs. well, and then nothing.  So I am curious if and how a surgery would make the no carb/low carb thing work better.  I had difficulty losing after a certain point with PSMF--and I was eating only 600ish calories a day and very few carbs.
Sorry to hijack a bit but I am trying to think through all of this before committing to surgery.

Ok, confession time from me.  I'm 15 months out from RNY, have lost 135 lbs. since December 22, 2008.  I go through stages where I do the low carb diet again.  I'm in that stage now.  I don't lose when I'm feeding my face with carbs.  The scales will go up, but not down, no matter what I do.  I decided I'd had enough and I'm ready to get to my goal, so a week ago I started the low carb diet religiously.  Honestly, I've about had all the salad and chicken I can stand.  I tried to eat a salad yesterday because I was in Dallas for a workshop and there just aren't a lot of choices.  I thought I was going to throw up!  So being the smart one that I think I am, I was craving ice cream on the way home.  I got close to home, so I stopped and got a small cup of ice cream.  I ate a couple of bites, had enough, and set it aside.  I got home, got my bags all unloaded and was in the house visiting with my sister and my mother.  All of a sudden I felt like I was going to faint and I got really shaky.  I knew my blood sugar had dropped rapidly.  I got my mother's glucometer and checked it, sure enough, 67.  I learned my lesson, I cannot eat sugar like that and stay healthy.

I have lost 8 lbs. in a week though.  I'm going to stick to the low carb way of life for a while, and find some new ways of cooking at my house again.
