So far been through 3 packets of Chike trying to find one that suits me. I've tried the Strawberry, Vanilla & orange. In class, I tried the chocolate & banana. Those were only bearable if I mixed them. Any advice on making these more palatable? I can deal with the bad taste if that's what I have to do, but I also know I'm not the first to think these shakes taste hideous and I'm sure some of you have come up with some ways to actually almost enjoy drinking them. I'm just looking for some suggestions/help! Any tips you can offer me are appreciated!

Surgery is a week from Monday. I'm getting excited!

Also, I'm a regular at the Y. Will my energy dwindle with this diet? I'd like to continue to swim and go to my classes up until my surgery date.

'mornin. Don't know about Chike. Is this a protein?  This is glendacraigo in Prattville, AL and I am one year (March 6) out of my surgery and would do it again today. Have lost 104 pounds and am 70 years old.  If the Chike is protein, I am using the Whey Protein powder from WalMart. Once scoop twice a day.  Vanilla can be put in your drinks, soups, oatmeal, 'bout anything.  I have a cup of coffee in the am with one scoop and packet of splenda. Wonderful filler too.  Stay with the Y.  As long as you go when doctor says you can and stay with it, it won't dwindle your energy.  Activity stays positive.  Follow directions to the letter and you will be fine.  Have a wonderful, blessed day!

Hello!

I am having lap band with Dr. Keith on March 5.  I am on day 4 of pre op diet.  And yes not really crazy about the protein drinks myself.  But I am noticing that my taste buds are getting more used to them and they are getting a little easier to drink.  I have the Chike and a sample pack of Matrix, to me the chike is a little more sweet.  On day 4 not so worried about protein intake as much of lack of caffeine.  I had no idea how addicted to caffeine I am, its not settling well today!  Anyway, wish you well  with you surgery.

Good Morning!

Pam T here on OH has some awesome protein recipes. They are listed on her blog at www.pamtremble.blogspot.com

Many of her recipes take vanilla protein powder and then she adds flavorings(SF of course), etc to make the protein drink better. I would highly recommend adding her as a friend as she has great info.

For her recipes, just substitute our protein brand powders from Dr Keith or Nelson's program(s). For the vanilla chai tea, I use the chike vanilla protein. It is an awesome recipe.

I have found I rarely drink the protein drink just mixed as is. I typically make a protein coffee (decaf of course) or protein chai tea from Pams blog.

Just some ideas that might help! Hang in there...it will all be worth it!

Chike is one of the better ones.  I don't think there is going to be a protein shake that tastes "good" because there is no fat, no sugar or nothing we've come to associate with being good.

I mix mine with coffee and at least enjoy the buzz.

My sage advice and this is not meant to be mean, just telling you something you need to know-is get over the search for "good" for some things.  If you have to, think of it as medicine-  but whatever you have to do, drink your protein shakes as you are told to.

Not getting in your protein is the first and most common step for failure.

Also-use your noodle on some of those recipes.  If you add a bunch of milk and other goodies (tons of fruit) to get something tasty, remember you are adding calories.  Adding protien to a milkshake is not making the shake healthier.......OK, we know I'm a big Sbux lover-and I do have their Smoothies-but I look at it as a lesser evil than french fries-it's still junk.

This is one of my pet peeves of all time-so I am trying to answer your question as well as share what I've learned.  The other thing-look out for those YUMMY protein balls made with peanut butter-some of them work out to worse than a candy bar.....LOL.

Thanks guys! I'm totally committed to doing what I have to to work this tool to my advantage. I'm just glad for any suggestions on how to make it a little easier. I got my answer on the energy today... drained and headachy. I hear it goes away in a few days so I'm looking forward to that. I guess the Y will live without me one day but I'll be expecting a call from my trainer tomorrow, I'm sure.

I've heard the third day is the worst=then it kind of levels off.  Your mileage may vary.  When switching to a very low calorie diet-be sure to drink a lot more water than you think you need and watch the hard exercise that makes you light headed-this is a good time for the gentle stretching kinds of thing that will relax you and work the muscles a bit.

I've used the Chike in Chocolate Bliss, and its pretty good.   The New Directions (Mocha)   is one of the best tasting to me.   I also like the BariCare in Chocolate....this one is mixed with 2-4oz of water so it's easier to get it all down.

I'm a little tired of all this chocolate, but I haven't liked any of the fruit flavors I've tried.  You can also try the vanilla and use a sugar free syrup to give it a different taste.

I actually felt better on the 10-day diet....everyone is different but your energy levels should stay up.

Everything happens for a reason.

My husband went to bodybuilders.com and got me mocha cappichino and carmel toffee fudge whey protein and they are FAB!!! LOVE them!

Isopure is a good one that doesn't have the strong milk constancy and after taste. Each bottle has 40 grams of protein too!
