This doesn't really answer your question, but I was thinking about all the different surgery types-and the one common denominator for failure is CARBS. They haven't devised a surgery yet that will stand up to a heavy carb intake-and most of the carbs people who don't do well are eating are the white and liquid variety.
I used to be an all things in moderation kind of girl, and that will get you a long ways. But the white carbs have got to go in order to get you there.
The sneaky thing about bread, even whole grain bread-is that most of it is loaded with sugar and corn syrup too. Bread that doesn't have that stuff tastes icky. So it's not really the grains that get you-it's the sneaky sugar.
Right now I'm trying to drop a few for spring-and it's no white carbs for me and minimal carrots/sweet taters. That's pretty much it. I can eat all the green veggies and meat I want. Fat comes down to common sense-I can't put a tub of butter on broccoli, but a little bit won't hurt.
Eating out-it's not that hard to order a grilled something and some steamed veg. Leave the croutons off your salad and go easy on the dressing-those simple changes will make a huge difference when combined with the restriction you'll get in quantity from your surgery.
Start drinking sugary calories or eating ice cream or any kind of candy-you will stop losing weight. It's really that simple, regardless of the surgery you choose.

I think before you ask about how strict one surgeons program is another..ask yourself this..are you ready for a lifestyle change that means less fat no sugar low carbs?
I had surgery with OWLO would not change that decision for anything...My program is about getting protein in watching carb fat and sugar intake which is the basic of all good wls programs.
WE OLD timers can tell you, one program cant be compared to another its all about the carbs and protein...
I have been to WW support group meetings and th difference between their program and OWLO is this..OWLO uses protein supplements and shakes to get the protein in after surgery and we are suppose to do a shake a day long term.Where as WW is about food....
I wont say one is better than the other...what I will say is..each surgery is a tool that can be abused...
good luck

I had the VSG through WW on August 5, 2009. Between my pre-op diet and weight loss after the surgery, I was down 100 pounds on December 10, 2009. A 100 pound loss in 6 months is tremendous! I NEVER cheated... not even a bite or a sip of anything.
Just the other day I was thinking about how great a bagel and cream cheese sounded. I never ate many bagels pre-op, but by saying I can't have any kinda makes me want them. I decided that if I ran to Panera I could have a couple bites of a bagel for energy and that it would probably be okay since I'm so close to goal. So, I ran there, got the bagel, sat down to have a few bites, and headed back out the door to continue my run.
Well, that bagel came back to haunt me that evening. You see, I only ate just under half the bagel, but I ended up having some of the worst stomach cramping in my life and couldn't sleep that night. Let's just say that I don't think I'll be wanting any more bagels for a while.
Many people think that it's unhealthy to live without simple carbs. That is not the case at all. Just think about what cavemen used to eat. They ate protein, probably some veggies, and nuts, seeds, and berries. Now, I'm sure the cavemen would of eaten some cookies if the Pilsbury Dough Boy would have been there to bake them, but he wasn't. Rice, pasta, potatoes, and bread really have no nutritional value whatsoever. You can get some calories from them, but you'd probably be hungry an hour later. Protein is best!
My numbers seem pretty good and I'm happy. I know that it's because I was so strict and faithful for so long. I truly believe that you get out of it what you put into it. It's not a cure all. It's a tool. We still have to do the work.
WW is, by far, the most successful program that I've seen and I honestly believe it's because they are so strict. I am forever grateful for WW and they've helped me have the life I've always dreamed of living.
