Hi everyone,
I am posting this for my cousin. He has been overweight for a while now and he was looking into getting gastric bypass. He lives in Bartlesville but can travel to a surgeon that is covered. He is just not sure of what insurances in Oklahoma cover gastric bypass. I was wondering if you guys could give me a hand and tell me what insurances cover your gastric bypass or even your DS. I am just trying to help him out and send him in the right directions. Also along with the insurance that covers the surgery could you give me a condensed list of what is needed to get the surgery covered (ie: 6 month diet, 5yr history). I am also going to post this in the insurance forum.

Thanks in advance for any help. PS. My cousin's insurance does not cover the surgery so he is looking to change insurances. Thanks

Nathalie

He needs to find out if his insurance company will cover bariatric surgery. Unless he's planning to switch insurance companies, it won't really do any good to know which others will pay for the surgery. The insurance company I have will pay for bariatric surgery because my company has negotiated it. My friend that lives in Washington has the same insurance, but they will not pay for the surgery.

Tell him to check on his insurance card for either the website or phone number to contact the company and find out directly from them.

Best of luck.

first ds is not allowed in this state..rather its insurance reasons or state politics.
as far as what companies pay atnea pacificare blue cross etc..the thing is if its in the policy...some companies will not pay for wls right after getting the policy..best thingto do is call the insurance commission of Oklahoma and see what they can tell ya

being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

Thank you for the lead. I had no idea that they didn't do DS in Oklahoma... I will send him the companines and of course tell him to contact the commission. He will wait the ammount of time he needs to to get the surgery done. I know that sometimes you need to wait like a year and he is willing to do that. He just needs a push in the right direction of an insurance company.

Thank you for all of your help.
