COULD NOT BE HAPPIER. Have had NO complications. NO setbacks (except the occasional stalls) and have just accepted that I'm not a super-quick loser all though it's also hard to believe I've lost 80lbs in 8 months and I'm dang sure not complaining! I will be at goal in under a year and then I have to decide if that's enough for me or do I continue downward. It's been a blessing, and I have to disagree with a lot of people on this board that it's been, for ME, the EASIEST thing I've ever done in my life. Hands down. It's a no brainer. What I wanted was for 'someone else' to control me and my eating and that's exactly what I got. My surgeon decided how small to make my stomach and I was happy with his decision, whatever it may be. All these people discuss ad nauseum about how big their bougie is, and frankly, who gives a rip? We're all here because we need to stop eating! Let the surgeons do their job!!
I was self pay too. Well worth it.
dr, ronnie keith of oklahoma weight loss options norman ok. WHY he has the center of excellance, and not only does he perform the surgeries but has taught them his experience made the difference. first impression wow hes a jerk but after saving my life from having mrsa to complications from hernias and another bout with mrsa plus surgery for gall bladder I would recommend him big time or his associate Lana Nelson I have had a total of 13 surgeries none was due to his lack of skill. Plus I know thaat he has helped patients who could not afford to have surgery
I am going to echo what Lisa J had to say...Dr. B is GREAT...Very "tell it like it is" kind of man, but so good. In fact, the entire staff up at Weight Wise rocks! I had my surgery (sleeve) a little over 1 year ago, am down 92 lbs and wouldn't change anything. No complications, no issues at all (knock on wood).
The only dirty detail I can give you is that low carbing really does work, and exercise is still a must...I just got back to my routine this week, so that I can break my stall and get toned up !
Best of luck and welcome to the board!
I originally started with the Weight Wise group in Edmond, Dr. Broussard. Went thru their program and was ready to schedule the surgery when the hubby got sick. Fast forward 1 year...my primary Dr. recommends Dr. Keith in Norman. His wife had RNY done by Dr. Keith. Dr. Keith was also on my federal BCBS insurance... Dr. Broussard was not.
As someone that has gone thru the programs at both Weight Wise and OWLO. Both programs are similar; exercise, psy eval, nutrition, support groups. Dr. Broussard requires weight loss prior to surgery, Dr. Keith did not.
Personality wise I prefer Dr. Keith. I also like the fact that the surgery was done at Norman Regional...so if anything had gone wrong...I was in a fully staffed, fully equipped hospital.
Well, I will say a little bit about him now. Upon my initial meeting with Dr Warnock, I was completely at ease. I had fully researched RNY prior to going into seeing him as is, but hearing from a doctor what to expect is totally different and he made sense of everything. He is incredibly thorough and he has a wonderful bedside manner. He also is very adament about continuing check-ups with you for life after your WLS and he has wonderful support groups (in several different locations, at that). I have been a patient of his for almost 6 years and will stand by his work as being top-notch. I guess the only "dirty detail" I can share is that if you don't follow doctor's directions, there is usually consequences to it. In my case, when I didn't follow directions, I ended up in the hospital with severe vitamin deficiencies. That was totally of my doing and it teaches you that what the doctor says to do, you should do.
Each one of us is going to prefer the surgeon who operated on us and, in the end, you have to find the one who you are most comfortable with when it comes time to do your WLS. I wish you the best of luck!
