Brrrr-it's cold outside

It was cold inside too-my heater croaked-but I kept enough fires burning to keep us all safe and the heater has a new motor and we are all very grateful and cozy tonight.
I'm trying to overcome my distaste for cold-and I have made progress. Before I came home and found the heater kaput, I was at an hour long agility class and then took my red dog Mollie on a moonlight hike in the frozen field.
I have some secrets for staying warm that are not glamourous, but they keep me out in the yard and in the stable when last year I wouldn't have dreamed of it.
Layer-I wear two pair of socks when it's cold. My warmest and favorite boots are Bogs-and they are butt ugly, but they are WARM and my feet stay dry. I usually put on a pair of cotton ankle socks or something that is moisture wicking, and then put on a pair of fuzzy warm socks over that-it does make a huge difference.
I also wear two pair of pants-either sweats or work out tights as the bottom layer, and some scrub pants or cargo pants on top. Yeah, I look like the michelan man (along with my three shirts I wear) but I am out there moving and when I peel of the clothes when it warms up I'll be glad I was out there moving.
Right now you can find sweat pants for 4 or 5 bucks, and Garden Ridge has scrub pants for four or five dollars-beats the heck out of a 50 dollar pair of insulated Carhart work pants, and honestly, when I'm working the dogs or the horse, I don't care what I look like. But, when it's time for jeans....they will be smaller jeans-yannow?
