Trying hard not to get hopeful...

But I can't seem to help myself!

The company I work for is changing insurance after the first of the year. My current insurance (CoreSource PHCS) excludes WLS, but the new company (First Health Network) will cover 1 WLS per lifetime.

I'm trying to keep my cool because I have NO idea how this will work out. For all I know the new ins. company will make me wait a year before undergoing an elective surgery. I'm really hoping not because I feel like my health is going down the tubes and I know that it's because of my weight.

I already have my heart set on Dr. Walton at WeightWise doing my surgery, which is kind of silly for me to do because I'm not even sure they accept my insurance.

I feel like I'm getting my hopes up for this and that I'm going to be let down. I just want it so badly!!!

One question for any of you who had your surgery at WeightWise: From the date you had your first consultation until you had your surgery, how much time passed? (I know it varies because of ins. co's, but I'm just trying to get a general idea.) Thanks a bunch!

It took me 5 weeks and I paid without insurance.

I did a 3 months pre-op diet to satisfy my insurance company and then they went ahead and denied me anyways. After getting the insurance denial I had the surgery within 2 weeks.

Thank  you both.

One of my worries can be checked off the list. I found out today that my new insurance won't consider obesity a preexisting condition, so there won't be any sort of waiting period for that.

I decided to go ahead and go in for one of the Weight Wise info seminars. Even though my insurance won't change/be available until after Jan 1, 2010, it won't hurt me to go in and have my head filled up with information. So this Saturday (the 5th) I'll go to the seminar and then I'll have about a month to seriously consider my decision.

(Maybe, if I'm really lucky, they'll be able to find out if my insurance is one they accept.)

I know this may end up being a months long process of 'sit and wait', but I can't even express how much I wish I was having this surgery...today. I'm sure you all understand. :)

Hey!  You'll be so happy with WW.  Dr. B performed my surgery.  My initial consultation was on 6/9/09 and I had to lose 14lbs before they would schedule surgery.  I kicked serious butt in the gym and religiously followed the eating plan my dietitian gave me.  I was down 28lbs from 6/9/09 to my pre-op on 7/30/09.  My surgery was 8/5/09 and I was down 33.  Awesome!  They could have scheduled my surgery for a week earlier, but I needed that extra time to make travel arrangements.
December 5 will be my 4 month surgiversary and I've lost 97lbs since my initial consultation which is about 6 months.  Not bad.  = )
I have great insurance, but they specifically exclude any sort of weight-loss surgery.  We tried filing anyways, but were denied every time.  I paid 12,500 cash at WW.  It's half the cost of what the doc's are charging here in St. Louis.  It was really worth my time to fly to Edmond for the procedure.  I saved a fortune and I couldn't be happier with my decision.
Best of luck to you!!!

I to had Dr. Broussard do my surgery at WW.  They cost was way cheaper than any where else.  And the whole process was so awesome.  They treated me like I was the only patient they ever had.  The cost was worth it. Like you said, here in Tulsa it was double than at WW.  Best decision I ever did...
