The Sleve

For me it was all about portion control and that is EXACTLY what I got. I went to the seminar thinking I was only going to consider the band and when I left, I knew the sleeve was for me. Dr B did mine at the end of May and I've lost about 65lbs with absolutely no effort. GREAT JOB on losing so much on your own already! You will be required to lose between 5 and 10% of your current body weight prior to surgery, depending on your BMI. Sounds like that will be fairly easy for you to do? There are things you definitely do not even want to consider for the first 6 months and shouldn't think about trying, simply because you're still healing even though you will feel great--as if it never happened--and so you shouldn't tempt yourself. There's absolutely nothing to be gained by eating bad and you'll find out soon enough if you eat too quickly or don't chew enough. You will puke it up immediately. Or right thereafter.

The staff is great. The hospital couldn't be more supportive, low patient/nurse ratio, the beds SUCK but that's probably all hospital beds.

You most likely won't be disappointed. Most all of us here are THRILLED with our choice but that is not to say that some people aren't as happy.

You'll get great support here too.

Portion is huge part of my diet right now.  I went in the same way thinking that I was leaning twards the lap band but I think the sleeve probably be my choice.  Congrats on the 65lbs.  your the second or 3rd person to have lost 65 lbs that i have talked to.  10% will be tough because i have already lost the easy weight...lol.  but move ahead I must.  I am excited about the challenge ahead and thanks for the advice.

I was reading your posts and about the weight loss before surgery.  The surgeons only count the weight lost after your first visit with them once they set your weight loss expectation at your visit so plan to be seen while you are debating so your continued weight loss can count.  I had my surgery on Aug 19th the sleeve by Dr. Broussard and LOVE IT!  It has given me such a sense of when to stop eating!  And I am all about following those rules -I will be successful!  I don't even want carbs in my body because I feel so great without them!  I don't miss them and boy am I suprised at that!  I never thought I could give those up and actually I don't care if I never get to eat them again.  It just isn't worth it!  And now that I am 3 sizes down and 40 lbs I am feeling fabulous!  I had my surgery on wed and was back to work full time on monday (would have gone back on fri if they would have let me!  Best of luck to you!

Yeah in the seminar I went to they talked about weight loss and how it only starts at the first weigh in.  I thought how cool and easy it would have been if I had started my diet now.  it would have been easy to loose the lbs but now my thinking is the more I loose before sugery the more I will loose after it is done.  I think that is awsome on the 40 lbs and3 sizes.  I can finally fit in a 56 now.  Looking foward to more of your sucess stories.  thanks JC

Hey there. That was my initial concern -- no bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, cake, cookies, candy for the rest of my life? Really?

I think that's the ideal and you definitely should stick to the rules as much as possible, but honestly, sometimes you will eat a brownie. Sometimes you'll have a small piece of pizza. Sometimes you'll have a small piece of cake. It just happens. Part of learning to be a "normal thin person" is learning how to moderate yourself. I had half a single-size serving of a 7/11 banana cake for my birthday, and you know what? I lost 2.4lbs that week, and my next meals were right on track with protein first.

I follow the 90-95% compliance rule. You are what you eat *habitually*. So I think Dr. B's point is that, habitually, you should avoid those things.

And just for clarification, I've lost 115 in 11 months with the sleeve : ) It's a good surgery. Just gotta follow the rules. GL.

Wow 115 is alot.  I am starting to understand this a little more.  Its not so much that you follow it perfect but that you follow it on a regular basis.  I plan on following it to a T and expect quite a loss.  I would love to lose anther 140lbs that would put me back at the weight I was at for Wrestling waaaaaaaay back in High school and also follows my BMI.  Thanks for the info I hope you keep losing!

GL with your decision : ) Just remember to be *kind* to yourself even after the healing process. There will be months when your loss *will* be low, but if you're in a caloric deficit (and you're automatically going to be for a long time) and eating your protein first, drinking your water, etc, the math is going to win out and eventually the weight will come off : )

And ps... don'****ch tv during the liquid phase ;; Way too many food commercials. Rent some movies ^^
