Checking in - Monday is the big day!
Good luck, Jan. You've got the best doctor, in my opinion. :) I second the Celebrate Vitamins that Debbie mentioned. You'll probably get them in 4 business days. If you can use protein shakes, you might want to order samples (www.bariatricfusion.com is my favorite), as your tastes will change, and you don't want to be stuck with a huge container of something you can't stomach--no pun intended). When I felt a bit weak after my VSG, I drank Isopure Grape, a protein-enriched liquid--like juice). It wasn't too bad. I put it in the freezer until it was slushy, on the days when my tummy said, "Ice-cold only, please." I learned that my tummy rules, in that regard. :)
I used 2 oz. shot glasses, to remind me to sip and because it didn't look like so much to drink (unlike looking at an 8 oz. glass of water****pt track in my journal.
I also used a kitchen timer, set for 15 minutes, and every time it went off, I walked through the downstairs of my house, once. That kept me moving regularly.
I know Dr. Walton recommends MiraLax, which you can get at Walmart (other places, too) and which can be mixed in any liquid, hot or cold. I've tried various things, but I still go back to that. Use it every day, and you won't get constipated.
If you can, have homemade soup broth. It's much better than canned (and less sodium). I used broth from a chicken I boiled (strained, of course) and a roast I baked. Then I froze the broth in ice cube trays and put the cubes in a freezer bag. The serving size was perfect. I used a mug warmer so that there was always soup warmed up for when I wanted a few bites.
I used a set of baby spoons and forks (still do, most of the time), to remind me to take small bites.
Know that you may be emotional, but that's just your hormones popping up to say hello. It gets better.
Have a positive attitude, and enjoy the journey. You are in my prayers. Please post as soon as you can, post-op.
Blessings,
Mary
