A question for the ladies

Ok girls....my question is has losing weight caused you to have problems with your cycles?  My doctor told me that estrogen is stored in the fat and that since I've lost so much, that I have totally confused my body.  It started out with me having a period every two weeks, now we're down to a week.  I'm about to call the doctor and see what he wants to do, but just wondered if anyone else has had this problem.

Thanks,
Marsha

Marsha,
I actually am more regular now then I have been in a long time.  I have heard that weight loss can make a difference.  I guess its different for all of us.

I definitely had issues with hormones after surgery.  I had to actually break down and see a gynecologist.  It took us a few tries to get everything evened out but we did.  Call you doctor.
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

Hi, Marsha.
Before surgery, I had about 3 cycles over a year's time. Since surgery (a year this Nov. 17th), I've had none. Of course, I'm 53. I don't miss it a bit, and I don't think I'm too crazy. :)
Blessings,
Mary

My second cycle was awful.  I was at a wedding and it hit like a flood, I ended up in the ER because I was bleeding so much and so fast.  It's settled now, though, thankfully.  The doc wanted to put me on birth control but I really wanted to avoid horomones (that was the trigger for the weight gain to begin with) so I decided to give it six months to see what happened.

ANY changes in your cycle should be addressed by your GYN. Very unlikely, but it could be something serious.

Don't take any chances.  Keep that appointment.  As a gynecological cancer survivor, I can attest that any changes that concern you should be followed up on.  I'm sure it is probably your body freaking out but it is always best to make sure.

Good luck.

I have an appt. on November 10, and will keep this appt.  I don't want to find myself back on birth control or hormones, because of the weight gain.  The PA suggested a Mirana IUD, or to have the endimitrial ablation again (I had that last summer, and it was suppose to stop the cycles completely...it didn't).  So I will see the doctor on the 10th and try to decide what to do.  I have also had migraines before each cycle again, and those had subsided after the ablation.  I don't need the birth control because at the same time I had the ablation, I had a tubal ligation.  So we'll see what the doctor has to say.
