Bob, Make sure you are drinking your fluids nice and slow, If you drink them too fast it will make you throw up. Also take your pain medication nice and slow too. Don't gulp it to try and get it down all at once. I know that it taste nasty. This is new to you so you will learn a lot by trial and error.

Take everything slow -- don't focus so much on the total amount required... it will happen... just sip sip sip constantly...keep hydrated...   yes the pain meds are nasty but your body is also very hyped up right now and any flavor, smell, even sound is magnified.  It does get better... if you feel in crisis please DO call the hospital.  Listen to your body, rest and relax.  Hang in there.. actually days 3 and 4 are the ultimate hardest and then things turn around (who knows why!!)...

Hang in there!!

I would try warm fluids.  Right after sergery I couldn't drink anything cold.  Warm water was the only way I made it!! I am a year and 5 months out>>>> still don;t drink cold anything.  I love coffee! Just be willing to try new things.  The pain of drinking will go away in a few days....slow small sips!

Because you're throwing up I'd recommend calling your surgeon.  That's something he really needs to know about.

Did the doc give you phenegran to help with nausea?  You may have a bad reaction in general to that pain medication, you might want to ask for something to either help keep it down or get something else.

As far as the liquids, maybe try a spoon.  Even what we preceive to be tiny sips immediately after surgery can still be too big for a brand new pouch.  Use a spoon and get your liquids like you would drink a soup and that might help.

You're going to make it, and you're going to feel so much better!!!!
