VSG patients
I love my sleeve, but I have found that although I have a banana for a tummy. I can still have a hefty appitite. If I sway from the high protein/ complex carb menu, I think I am starving. I find that head hunger is the biggest problem with me. I may eat a meal and wi**** had been something else and want to eat more, though there is no room for another bite.
I decided on the sleeve because of my age and the fact that I have quite a few different meds that I have to take for other issues. I was also afraid that I could need meds down the line and I didn't want to worry about an issue with pills.
I love my sleeve. I am diabetic and worried that it wouldn't really help with that, but it has lowered my A1C from 10.5 to 6.5. I lost consistently in the beginning but have been stuck for sometime.I was what many call a light weight because the amount I needed to lose was less than many, but for me that amount was slowly killing me.
With all these revelations, I have discovered that I still have to work on my weight. I still have to put some effort into achieving goals.I have to work to plan on what I will eat and what I can't eat. There will always be both problems, no matter what surgery we have. I find that I still have to work on my mind and seeing myself change. I have a problem seeing myself as anything but fat and that is a hard thing to overcome.
I have found that it would be easy to give up on my goal weight, because I feel so much better having lost what I have lost. I can get into smaller clothes and people notice the difference however; I have to realize, that it is my health that requires me to push on to reach my goal.If I am still overweight, then I still have health risks that could cause problems, so I have to be tenacious and forge on to reach that goal.
The sleeve is a wonderful tool and it has changed my life forever, in the best way possible. I never have had one day that I regreted doing this. I thank God daily that I live in a time that this was available to me to literaly save my life and change it at the same time.
You have made a wonderful choice! Just realize it is not going to change the habits or mental issues that you may or may not have. It is still work, in both the physical and mental area's. The support you will find on here will be a great help to you. I know it has been for me.
Let us know if you have questions, no matter how crazy they may seem to be. We have all been there, so just ask away!!
Good luck! We will be praying for you!

either rny, sleeve or ds its all good to me...sorry any lap banders...
I am just going to say this...alot of people do the sleeve thinking wow I am able to eat food etc...but that can get you into as much trouble as if you never had surgery...keep it in your head your tool can be abused and misused....doesnt matter which surgery you have...
If my insurance would have approved the sleeve I would have still gone with my rny. Its the oldest procedure out there..and has a good track record...plus at the time I thought I would not be able to tolerate sugar and that was one of the reasons I picked it...but that didnt happen...
Good luck to you ...I am excited for you
I had the sleeve on May 13. As of Monday I have lost 100 lbs. It has been the best thing I have ever done. I was also nervous and wondering if I was doing the right thing. I think everyone feels the same. It has been so easy for me. At this point I am so thankful I came down this path. In April when I first went to Weight Wise I was in size 3x clothing, last night I bought size 16 jeans. I have been floating on air.
For me attitude has worked. I made up my mind that I was going to do everything I was told to do. IF I was told I had to take vitamins then I am going to take vitamins. Drinking is a way of life now and a big part of life. No carbs has been the rule and it is working for me. Exercise is another rule, but not hard work outs.
Ever day I find something new to smile about. Last week I bumper my ankle and it hurt. I looked at it and I could see the bone. I have not seen my ankle bone in years. I smiled all day.
I just love this new life.
I did a lot of research like you and talked to those that have actually had surgery and specifically sleeve.
The reasons for my choosing the sleeve was it was not as reconstructive as the RNY. The sleeve doesn't have the malabsoruption either. I didn't want to have to rely so heavily on supplements like those with RNY do, since it can be VERY expensive.
The reason I didn't chose the band is I did NOT want a foreign object in my body. I didn't want to have go back again and again and again to have this thing adjusted. Also the band has the lowest/slowest weight loss of the three surgeries that are offered to me. I felt like the band would be a LOT more work and more like dieting. But the major thing was the port stuck in me and then sticking out as I lost weight.
Also the hunger hormone center is removed with the excised stomach with the sleeve (told during a seminar given by my surgeon). It is thought that you do eventually start making the
hormone again, but you have a head start to helping you develop good eating habits!
