Question for all VSGers

Could you please let me know if your insurance covered you VSG?  As I stated in a previous post my surgeons office is refusing to even try and submit it to insurance because they say that there is absolutely no insurance that will cover that procedure. So, I am curious to see how many actually did get it covered. Thanks!

When I went to the seminar I believe that the doc said that there was no insurance that would cover VSG because it is still considered experimental, because the procedure was less than 5 yrs old. The seminar I went to was 15 months ago, so I don't know how old the procedure is now.  Your surgeons office is probably correct.  I originally attended the seminar to have the rny, but when I found out that my insurance wouldn't pay for anything because of the exclusion made by my husbands employer I chose the VSG because it was less expensive & I was going to have to be self pay.  Good luck, hopefully someday insurance will pay for this procedure and employers will stop excluding weight loss surgery from its policies.

My insurance pays for the VSG.  Call your insurance yourself if they are refusing to help you.

I believe we were told at support group last week that about 30 percent of sleeves are paid through insurance, but only after a fight. Fortunately, Weightwise has patient advocates who lead the charge. WW did bill my insurance, but I was refused.

Also, if you'll go onto the sleeve forum, you'll find some people posting "I'm approved," so I know someplace, somewhere, some insurance companies are paying.

Good luck!

My insurance covered all three (bypass, sleeve, and band). We are fortunate.

I hope that you can get your insurance company to get on board!

Best of luck sweety!

Mine covers every surgery but VSG. I knew it was the surgery for me, so I went self-pay. No regrets. Call your insurance company, though, to find out.
Blessings,
Mary
