I have a very stubborn kidney stone...

Monday was my 9 month surgiversary and I was sooo looking forward to it...instead....

I woke up at 5 am on Monday morning in SEVERE pain. It gradually got worse so I was at my docs office at 8AM when they opened. My doc wouldn't be there for another hour and I was dying so I left there and headed to minor emergency. They didn't open until 10...UGH! At that point someone had to come and get me because I was no longer able to drive myself. We went to the ER at SouthCrest. I walked in and filled out a short paper before I felt ill...as I have not been able to vomit since my RNY I began to heave which on top of the pain I was already in was almost unbearable. They took me back and started an IV which gave me almost instant relief of the pain. The did a CT scan and found a 4.5 millimeter stone that was still above my bladder. I was told that stone under 5 mm will usually pass on there own and was sent home with pain meds and Flowmax (a drug they give men wit prostate probs...lol) For the past 2 days I have been having to strain my urine so that I can make sure I know if the stone comes out, no such luck. Last night I started  having a large amount of blood in my urine. I went to my PCP today and she is sending me to a urologist and hopefully we can get this thing out of here. I am not in the unbearable labor-like pain that I was in on Monday, but there is a lot of pressure and I am so uncomfortable. I am afraid to let the pain medication wear off completely because I do not want to be in that awful pain again.

I am super curious to know what caused this which I guess until it comes out and they can test it I wont know.

Anyone else have problems with kidney stones since surgery?

I've had kidney stones before and I definitely can relate to how painful it was! Mine was there for over 2 weeks! I know that in my case, the kidney stones were a result of dehydration in the hot August weather. (I'd been working out outdoors) When I got the lab results back, my kidney stone was calcium build-up :-(. I hope you pass the stone soon!

Bless your heart, those puppies are painful! Unfortunately, kidney stones can develop, post-WLS. The best prevention is to keep well hydrated. If you've had trouble getting your water in, this may (or may not) be the result. I'm praying for you, that you will pass this stone soon. I would stay on the pain med until then, if your doctor says that's okay.
Blessings,
Mary

I was unaware the Kidney stones were a post WLS problem.  Makes sense with all the waste being expelled from the body though.  Just reason number 1004 to drink water!

UPDATE:

I still haven't given birth to my stone yet. I have been at home all week on pain pills and having to strain my pee...fun...fun.

I have an appointment with a urologist on Tuesday. His office said that he likes to give it a full week to come out on its own. So we will see what happens over the next few days,

I do drink plenty of water, so I am pretty sure thats not it. I will be very interested to hear what they say is causing this.

Thanks for the kind words and well wishes...I will update you again when I have some news...
