port incision
Hi everyone I had my Band put on June 8th. At the same time I had my gallbladder removed and Dr. Keith found a large hurnia, right at top of stomach so he had to repair that before he did banding. All my incisions but the port healed. The port sight got infected and the port flipped over so I had to have surgery for that repair. The same incision was used so after aweek or so. It started draining, I saw DR. Wed. and he put me on antiobiotic. Anyway has anyone had problems with their port sight. I am beginning to think I am never going to heal up. He did one fill when I was in surgery last time. Doc said their was a large whole from port incision down in abdomen area. It is not healing. Thanks for listening. Carol Sue
Carol Sue, I'm so sorry you are having these problems with your port. I hope you heal up soon so you can enjoy your band more!
I haven't had any problems with the port so I can't offer any advice there. I will say, be sure to take all your antibiotics so you have the best chance of getting better (sorry, nurses make bad naggers!!).
Get better soon!

I haven't had any problems, but infection is all too common for any surgery these days. Please please take ALL your antibiotics as directed and comply with any other orders you get from the doc.
I did have one site on the bottom of my foot that got infected during a surgery, and I had to do the wet to dry dressing thing and it took quite a awhile to heal. Hang in there!
I didnt have the lap band but sometimes ourbodies just catch little germs. I suggest that you clean that area with saline solution at least three times a day and cover it with gauze. No antibitoic ointments..they actually cna lead to infection from surgery. And please do not apply a heat pad to the incisional area that can make the little germs breed.
Good luck you are in good hands

being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it
When I had my colostomy surgery a few years ago, I got an infection in the top of the incision by my belly button and they had to insert a drain vacuum to drain it and then when it came out the hole had to close from the inside out. It does take a little while to close that way but as long as you are taking your antibiotics and keeping it very clean, it should get better soon.
My son has also had a port incision that got infected (from his chronic transfusions) and it also opened up kind of big and had to heal from the inside out. It looks worse than it is but as I said if you keep it clean and infection free, it eventually closes on its own.
Good luck.
