So I am having a major problem. I am suppose to be dieting to lose 14 lbs.  I am having to do the 6 months supervised diet and am down 2 months. I am having trouble getting motivated to lose the weight. I have only lost 2 lbs.  I keep telling myself that I won't be able to eat this or that after the surgery so I am eating it now.  I have been doing good with exercising. I am walking 2-3 miles a few times a week and bicycling.  I think I may be too gung ho on the exercising and I know I need to watch what I eat.  How did everyone get motivated to lose their pre-op weight and does anyone have any suggestions..And yes I keep telling myself that if I dont' lose it  I won't be able to have the surgery....And I want the surgery badly!!!!! Why isn't that enough to get me going?? HELP

My motivation was all the trouble I went through to get the surgery approved. Then, the fear I had that something would fall through was enough to make me do everything the doctor told me. I just thought the surgery was my last chance at life, to have the type of life that I want.

As far as eating things one last time (guilty of doing that myself a few times), my tastes and cravings have changed SO MUCH since the surgery, that the things that sounded so great before don't necessarily sound good anymore. Eventually, you will be able to eat in moderation (true it can take a few years) but this isn't a death sentence for food. I'm three weeks out and today went to Chili's and had a wonderful grilled chicken and veggies.

It's a good trade! Giving up some foods for awhile for getting your life back...best decision I ever made!

I walked out of the seminar and was determined to do everything I needed to do.  I lost my weight by cutting carbs only.  It was like being on the atkins diet.  The best thing about it was I could eat as much food as I wanted, only selected foods.  I was never hungry.  Every time I wanted to eat something I shouldn't I looked at it and asked myself if I wanted to be gutted.  That was the term Dr. Walton used at the seminar.  I thought it was funny at the time, but it really worked for me to think about it.  Dr. Walton said if you do not lose the weight he will have to gut you.

Hey, not that I'm saying this is the best way to prepare for surgery, but I just wanted to let you know you're not alone. I started this process back in February and had my surgery a week ago today and I literally lost 10 (plus 6 extra) of my 16 I had to lose in the last 4 weeks before surgery. It had taken me 4 months to lose 6lbs but it was like I finally had an end in sight so it was motivation for me to actually stick to the diet and do everything you're supposed to do. Its hard to lose the weight when surgery seems so far off in the future, but don't let that discourage you too much.

I seen my surgeon last November and left there distraught over having to lose 35 pounds.  I had absolutely no motivation and didn't think it was fair that I had to lose weight to get a surgery that some of the people I work with got done without any weightloss, except for the weight they lost on the 10 day liquid diet our surgeon requires prior to surgery.  They called me in May and said Dr. Gornichec wanted to see me and I said that I hadn't lost all my weight so I didn't see the point but they made an appointment for June anyway.  So in the month that I had I cut out most carbs and started walking 3 miles at least 4 to 5 times a week and by the time I went I had lost 15 pounds for a total of 20.  They  were going to schedule surgery with that amount gone or I could wait another month and lose a little more and we will go from there.  I go back on the 17th of July.  I really think the consistent walking is what has helped me.  I don't snack and I have a lot smaller portions than I was having so just keep trying till you find what works for you.  I am starting to enjoy the walking so I have kept that up without a problem.  Good Luck.

GIRL 14LBS IS NOTHING COMPARED TO 33LBS THAT I HAD TO LOSE! BUT I KNOW IT IS STILL HARD TO DO. I GOT ME SOME STUFF FROM DISCOUNTNABOLICS.COM CALLED JUST DESSERTS MADE BY BSN. IT COMES IN SEVERAL FLAVORS. I ONLY TRIED VANILLA AND CHOCOLATE BUT THEY WERE GOOD. YOU MIX IT WITH 2% MILK AND HAVE A SHAKE FOR BREAKFAST AND A SHAKE FOR LUNCH AND THEN EAT DINNER. IF YOU NEED SOMETHING IN BETWEEN MEALS MAKE IT HEALTHY. THIS HELPED ME AND I LOST 40LBS BY SURGERY DAY! I KNOW YOU CAN DO THIS! GOOD LUCK!
