Realize vs. Lapband

Hi all,

I'm new but not really.  I've been lurking around and reading/researching for awhile.

I'm scheduled for surgery with Dr. Gornichec on 7/21 and have my pre-op appt Tues.  I'll need to let them know which band I want to use.

Is there a different between the two?  I can't really find much in my research (major differences).

Any insight  would be appreciated!

There's really not any significant differences.  Dr. G will tell you that if you can't decide he'll flip a coin, he thinks they both work the same.

The biggest difference is that with the Lap Band there are pillows, made to reduce the chance of folding, pinching, or creasing.  I've also heard that the Realize band has a shorter profile on the port, so it's not supposed to stick out as far. 

I have the Lapband & my friend has the Realize, we have both had good results.  The difference in the profile is really minimal in my opinion.  I don't know if there is a big cost difference or if insurance has a preference.  I just picked one!
