Are there any runners or anybody wanting to run here?

I'm starting the Couch to 5K program tonight.  Has anybody done it?  Anybody want to do it with me?

I don't care for a lot of chit chat while I'm exercising, so rather than the original podcasts I'm using THIS ONE.  Even if you don't care for the type of music (I don't) it's got a good beat to keep pace.

If you haven't heard of the program, it's a great one.  It's designed to get you running a 5K in 9 weeks.  I like that you're not jumping directly into it, but working up.  You run three times a week, and there's a podcast for each week.  First week you have a 5 minute warmup, then walk fast for 90 seconds, run for 60, for the duration of the run.  I think it's 26 minutes, then a cooldown.  The next week walk for two minutes, jog for 90 seconds.  And so on...

If you'd rather just do the program without podcasts, you can do that too...here's the layout for the program.

I so, so want to learn to be a runner and to LOVE it.  Not sure that's in my future but it's at least in the back of my mind.  I have heard of this program and it's supposed to be a great one.  So I wish you luck and hope you learn to love to run.

I have too many jiggly parts when I run....sad, but true!

My joints won't let me run.  Hopefully you will find a running partner.  Good luck!
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

I'm not trying to discourage you, but what about your pulled navel muscle? I don't want you to injure yourself further.

While I would love to, I had a VO2 test done yesterday and I am not ready to begin this type of a program yet. Some more fat burning to do first then I can begin more vigorous training. Good luck. It looks like a great program.

HIJACK!!!  Nancy - how did your VO2 go?  I need to have this done again since my first time was a month before surgery so it's probably changed.  Mind if I ask you what your target heart range is for fat burning?

It actually healed a lot faster than I thought it would, I'm doing much better.  :)

I've got a lot of jiggly parts, too, and I'm nervous about running.  I hated running when it was required in HS, but when I was in the Air Force I loved it.  I'm worried about the jiggly parts aching, but I like that it's such a "work-toward-goal" program.

My new neighbor is the track coach at Choctaw High School, and she's going to be running with me.  She also seems to think that she's going to teach me how to ride a motorcycle.

I'm relieved. If you haven't gotten an "okay" from your doctor, you might give him a call, just to be sure. I'll stop mothering you now. :)
About the jiggly parts. What if you wore a body shaper underneath your running clothes? That would help, I'd think. You'd probably feel warmer and sweat more, but as long as you kept drinking water, you should be fine.
Be sure to drink lots of water, because you know how quickly we WLS people can get dehydrated. Oops, I said I would stop mothering...Sorry. :)
I'm glad you have a running partner. Have fun.
Blessings,
Mary

Don't want to rain on  your running parade, but my friend began Couch to 5K and on Day 4 got a stress fracture of the knee. So, be careful, and do those stretches first.
