I don't want to eat anything...but I want everything

Sounds odd right? (maybe not!!) I'm not quite sure how to handle myself the past few days. Everything smells amazing, but nothing tastes good. I'm still in phase 2 of the post-op diet (eating tuna, eggs, mashed potatos and applesauce) but I'm  not hungry nor does the thought of putting anything in my mouth (even water) sound good to me. It actually makes me gag.

I went to see Dr. G for my 2 week follow-up and he wanted to give me fluids b/c I'm so dehydrated. I know, trust me I know I have to get in the water and protein but I'm not. I'm trying, and making more of an effort now than what I was. It's just this problem that everything "sounds" & smells good. But once I get it to my mouth...I gag. Any suggestions?

I remember those days. I sympathize, but you've GOT to get in your water. Trust me, you want to avoid being put in the hospital for IVs, if at all possible. For now, focus on getting in your fluids. You know you can count all liquids, frozen or not. Experiment with the temperature of whatever you drink. You may find that hot is better than cold, or room temperature is better than frosty drinks. If plain water makes you want to gag, add Crystal Light (they have many different flavors). If that's too sweet, try different caffeine-free herbal teas. Whatever you do, get in your fluid!

I had this problem to for a while. It will pass. YOu have to force yourself to get the protein shakes and water down.

Sounds to me that you are more dehydrated than you thought.  Dehydration makes you nauseous.  You may need to rethink Dr. G's offer of IV fluids.  You will feel much better when you are fully hydrated.  Good luck.
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

I had this same problem. I finally found warm beef or chicken bullioun worked for me. My taste buds have never been the same since surgery but now I am getting a little better. When I wanted to stop with the sodium filled bullion, I switched to decaf tea with splenda. Hot or cold it is good.

Hope this helps
