6 Weeks out

Hi all, Well, today I had my 6 week appointment with my surgeon.  He and the nurses were very impressed with my weight loss. at 2 weeks out I was at 407 and today I was at 378.5 .  I have gained back about 3 lbs but I also know the reason why:  I had a very fun weekend with friends in Tulsa, and did no****ch as closely as I should have what I ate, and did not get out and walk like I had been doing. And then with the storms that went through here the last couple of nights I have not been able to get out and walk either, but I did get out tonight and walk around the block again.  And I have been watching what I have to eat.  So I'm back with the program.  I have an appointment with my pcp on the 17th and we will discuss the gout issues and see what we can do. I will do better I promise...

Hi, Susan.
You're doing very well with your weight loss. Congratulations! It's good that you're getting right back on the program. That's key. As far as walking, I know that if I don't get right out to walk in the morning, there's a great chance that it won't happen at all. It feels good to get it out of the way, first thing. Sometimes, I can walk in the evening, as well, which is always nice.
As far as the gout, I'm wondering if you stay away from red meat, perhaps that will help. I don't think all types of protein exacerbate the problem, but I'm no doctor. Let us know what he/she says.
Blessings,
Mary

Mary,

I can't have red meat yet so I know that is not the problem causing the gout. Can't have it until 6 months out according to my dr.'s plan.  I would rather walk in the evening, because my pcp and foot dr. don't want me out walking alone. And I tend to sleep in, in the mornings. I stay up late at night.

Susan,
You are doing great!  I totally understand getting off track when you get out of your routine or the weather changes. (I have been in Kansas City all week, eating rich foods, at least in smaller amounts than I would have 7 months ago!).  Just start fresh and don't beat yourself up, that will only sabotage you further.  Keep up the good work!
