Questions??? Questions??? Questions???
I am one week out of surgery, and I’m just finishing up my first week of liquids. My question is how much weight is normal to lose during this time? The day of surgery (one week ago today)I weighed in at 239.5, and the day after surgery (last Thursday) I weighed in at 247.8. Which I knew was going to happen so it wasn’t a big surprise. But this morning I weighed in at 228.5! Which is great I’m really excited about it, but that means I’m down 19.3lbs since last Thursday morning. Is this normal? I’m starting to get afraid that I’m losing weight to quickly so I would like to see what everyone else’s experience has been. I seem to be doing ok physically, I just kind of feel lethargic. I figure this is just from the liquids tho. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

I LOST 24 LBS THE FIRST 10 DAYS AFTER SURGERY. IT IS GETTING CLOSE TO 3 WEEKS AFTER THAT AND I HAVE NOT LOST ANY, BUT CAN TELL THAT MY BODY IS CHANGING AND GETTING SMALLER. THIS IS REALLY A DIFFERENT WAY OF DOING THINGS. I DO NOT EAT MUCH BUT AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME KIND OF EMOTIONAL FEELINGS I FELT WHEN I WAS DIETING. I WAS AWARE THAT THESE STALLS WOULD HAPPEN BUT IT STILL EFFECTS YOUR EMOTIONAL SIDE. IT IS NOT LIKE I CAN EAT LESS. I JUST KEEP TELLING MYSELF TO WAIT AT LEAST 6 MONTHS FOR RESULTS.
I lost like crazy the first 2 weeks after surgery. Now I am losing inches and not so many pounds. A lot of it is water/fluids to begin with. I can tell in my clothes (especially underware) that things are changing with my body. I am totally ok with the scale not moving right now, as I know it will once my body catches up and is ready to give up the pounds. Just drink all you can, get in your protein and Vite's and you will do great!... Remember it's a JOURNEY not a sprint to the finish line!

I would encourage all new post ops to step away from the scale. You are going to have downs and ups as you progress through the eating stages (clears, full liquids, etc) and it paints a very unrealistic picture. As part of your new life, try not to become any more scale obsessed than you already are.
Remember, the real prize is healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle and a healthy body!
Your experience sounds just like mine EXCEPT I was not lethargic whatsoever! I know it's silly to feel like I've lost so much weight already that I'm just bubbling with energy, but I do believe it's my current state of mind which is AWESOME!
Yes, you gained and lost your water weight from surgery so you don't get to count that. Dang it, huh? LOL. I tried to be content with broth but found that I had to strain chicken noodle soup and drink THAT broth, and it gave me more oomph than the stand-alone broths for protein. Of course sipping at a shake, refrigerating it constantly to keep it cold, was the main source. I also ate quite a few popsicles (wal mart has sugar free 18 count for 1.78 or something like that!) and jello when I had room. It simply amazes me there is NO HUNGER with the VSG! Of course 'head hunger' and the food commercials are horrid to have to see and hear, but this week I am onto mushies and was thrilled to be able to steam the heck out of broccoli and cauliflower with cheese and got 3 spoonfuls of that down. Wow. It's amazing.
It's really hard NOT to look at the scale these days, and I know it would be best not to, but who has that much control? If we did, we wouldn't be here, right? I'm jus****ching it go down a lb or two every couple days and LOVING that. It will come off in time. Can't believe it's only been 2 weeks.

Hey you newbie! See the scale? throw it out its not your friend. In other words you are going to become fixed on watching that scale move downward and when it stops you will freak out and want to know why. instead of relying on a scale try seeing how your clothes are being loose on you...take measurements of yourself cause you can gain muscle weight and be losing fat
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it
