What should I pack???
I brought my own pajamas. I could not wait to get out of that horrible hospital gown- way too breezy for me! Make sure it has a loose waist though. You won't want anything tight on your tummy. I also brought my own pillow. I never even touched the book or magazines I brought.
I like the list of things the others mentioned, but I would add a portable disco ball....you never know when realy fun people are gonna stop by and you don't want them to think you can't party on the spot.....
I would also pack a plastic martini glass and some green gatorade, just so you can mess with the nurses and tell them you're drinking appletini's and no, you don't share.....
Lastly....bring a boom box.. yep...there's nothing like Donna Summer singing "dim all the lights sweet darlin' cuz tonight it's all the way..." Classics never go outta style....
Just my opinion...If I could do it again, those would be the items I would bring....

I had open RNY and was in the hospital for 3 nights so it was a little different for me. I brought books/magazines, loose pjs, chapstick (wet lips, to be exact), my own toiletries, socks, cell phone/cell phone charger, pillow and throw blanket from home (make sure to have a colored pillowcase on it if you do that), and my prescriptions. I could easily be leaving something out, but it's been a while. Hope that helps! If your hospital has Wi/Fi, I'd bring a laptop with me :) Good luck tomorrow! Let me know if you need anything ~ *hugs*

I wore some knit capri's with drawstring and a cotton top, flip flops. I brought a sweater just in case I was cold because hospitals always seem to do that to me. Of course the cell phone!! Had plenty of calls, which was nice cuz I didn't set up the house phone close enough and it was hard to reach from bed. A real PITA for me. (pain in the ass). My own pillow would have been a good idea. Watched a little TV but otherwise just rested. Really not in there that long!
I never had pain meds, just anti-inflammatories and am still not taking any pain meds. You will find yourself being sore as if you've heaved through the flu for five days--your ribcage and upper abdomen just are sore. But the incisions themselves never did and still don't hurt. I have no idea if I'm lucky or the norm.
I vaguely remember hearing myself snore while in recovery but have no recollection of bed transfer or anything. Also remember my nurse dropping off a tray of water, flavored water of some sort (maybe w/electrolytes), and broth but I don't remember being told about the broth so the ho****er sat there for hours. LOL. I dozed off and on for a few hours but was wide awake by noon and on the phone. I walked for the first time with the nurse and I'm not a turtle anyway so she said "you're doing great, see ya!"
It was hard to get enough water in, but between 2000 cc's of fluids plus what I drank, having the IV pole to drag around and unhooking the compression 'socks' each time to pee, well, another PITA but whatchagonnado?? Walk walk walk and sip sip sip is all I can say. I was released at about 11:30 the next afternoon, drove myself home (about 8 miles, but holding my sloshing belly over the pot holes!! [newfound respect for C-Section moms]) and haven't had a moment's concern since!
THIS WAS EASIER THAN MY KNEE SURGERY! I lost the 10# of water weight in a day and a half, have NOT been hungry one minute since, and have been losing about a lb a day or so! Amazing. I tried jello for the first time last night and got about 3 teaspoons down. It was fine. We're having a potluck here at work today (great) and I made a big tray of jello. Welcome to my world!!
PS: I worked the following Monday (which was yesterday--not fatigued, just a little lower back soreness from getting back behind a desk after 10 days!
BEST OF LUCK! You'll do great!
