6-month follow-up

Hi, Everyone.
I couldn't decide what emoticon to put with this post topic, so I didn't put anything. My 6-month follow-up appointments were a bit stressful, only because I've been in this 4-week stall (weight wise), so I think I was overly sensitive.

The nutritionist fussed at me for: 1) having a drink with calories (I WAS drinking a cup of high-protein hot cocoa, so I could mix Miralax in it and not feel nauseous afterward) ["If it's a drink with calories, it's a snack, and you're not supposed to snack!"] and 2) for eating cereal (even though I only used 1/4 c. skim milk with it and it has 9 grams of protein--which is very good, for cereal--but it has 9 carbs, also, so it's a no-no). She said my meals, otherwise, are fine. Oh, and she took away my bacon!
AND YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE SHE DID? She told me I was not to write down anything but what I eat and how much.  I cannot count calories, fat grams, protein grams, sugars or carbs! She wants me to stop obsessing (Who? Me?) over the specifics.  Just follow the food guidelines (Where is that notebook?...Oh, there it is.), eat 3 meals, and eat until satisfied. If I can't do that, then Dr. Keller is to help me.
Anyway, if doing all that breaks this stall, it will be worth it all!

Dr. Walton was kinder. He just said, "The clock is ticking" , referring to the one-year window of opportunity for losing weight. Of course, we know you can continue to lose weight after a year; it's just that it's more difficult, and it's pretty much "all you," not the surgery.
So...that's how my 6-mth. follow-up went. I go back in 6 wks., for labwork and to see if I get fussed at some more or get a .  Trust me, I want the latter!
Thanks for reading.
Blessings,
Mary

I was wondering if that cereal you are eating was Special K protein.  I eat that everyday with a sugar free yogurt.  I think its an awesome cereal.  Anyway as for the window for weight loss.  I am 14 months post op and I am still losing weight.  I have lost 8 pounds this month.  Which is good considering I am over one year post op.  Anyway, Good luck I just wanted to share with you my thoughts because I feel the same way too sometimes.  Don't panic.

Thanks for your words of encouragement. Later, I thought, "Gee, I hope people don't read my post and think that the nutritionist was being unkind." She's very professional and matter of fact. She actually felt bad that she had "burst my bubble."
The cereal I've been eating is Better Balance Honey Almond Cereal. It looks like Cheerios, and the first ingredient is soy protein. I love it, but no more for me...until after 1 year is up. I have to be able to live with an eating plan, and I'm not going to let cereal go forever. Without bacon (and, I assume sausage, which I don't care too much for anyway), I'm basically left with eggs. I've never been able to acquire a taste for any kind of yogurt, and I detest protein shakes. Yuck.
I'm glad you're still losing at 14 months, and I pray I'll be able to say the same...unless I'm at goal by then and then maintaining. :)
Blessings,
Mary

It may be the kind of bacon you are eating.  Ask the NUT about lean center-cut bacon.  It has fat but WAAYYYY less of it.  Oscar Mayer is the main brand and Wal-Mart carries it.  Get the thin sliced and cook it to crispy.  Almost no fat left after that.  I eat that for breakfast 3-5 times a week.  3 strips does it for me since these slices are shorter.  All of my food choices were good according to Chris but I need to add more veggies to help with bowel issues.

My checkup went well and I get to start interval training where I start mixing some cardio into my exercise and soon I will start strength work.  Dr Walton said he was proud of me and I am doing extremely well for my 3 month followup.  Chris only said that I need more veggies but my protein choices were quite adequate.

Don't worry!  Just stray back on to the program path and you'll be A-OK and the weight will start coming off again.  I know you can do it!!!

Hi.
I think she took away the bacon only because I'm in a long stall. I've used turkey bacon and Oscar Mayer original, but she said not to eat it for a while. I think she'd let me have Canadian Bacon, but since my surgery, it makes me want to...you know. It's okay. I can deal. It won't be forever, and then I can go back to having a slice of bacon.
Did you ask Chris about the bread you found? After I left I thought, "Winnie's going to be toast!" haha  (But maybe not) :)
Glad your visit went well.  I need to get in more vegetables, too, but it's hard to have room when you do "protein first."
Blessings,
Mary

Ever have the feeling you just can't please most people?  I think you are doing great, even though we don't get to see the pics to prove it (sorry, had to get that one in ).  Hard to believe you had your 6 month check up already.  Time passes fast, huh?  Can you share with us what your weight loss was since surgery?  Breakfast is kinda hard since not everyone can tolerate the eggs.  I still love them, but started eating Tom's hot flax cereal from netrition.com.  At first it was sorta gross, but it grew on me, and eat it now almost every morning instead of eggs.  Main reason is I realized that it keeps me satisfied all morning -- even more than like an egg with cheese.  I applaud you, dear Mary.    Keep up the great work.  Michael

Hi, Michael.
Thanks. If I hadn't been in a stall, I think she would have been pretty pleased (overall) with my food log. Her job is to help me figure out why I'm in the stall, so I'm sure what she told me to change will help me. I'm really grateful, even though I have let myself whine about it. :)
From my highest weight, I've lost 123 lbs.  Of that, I've lost 96 lbs. since I first began seeing Dr. Walton. On the day of surgery, I weighed 333 lbs. (I think), and have lost 55 lbs. since then. I still have 122 lbs. to lose to get to goal weight. It's just way too soon to be at a 5-week stall, so something has to change! I'm determined that it will change. :)
Thanks for the applause. I'm taking a bow, and I will post a picture sometime. I promise. :)
Blessings,
Mary

Wow, your loss is great.  Don't get caught up in the stall, even though I know it is hard not to.  Concentrate on how well you've done!  I so know how frustrating it is to go through the stalls, but remember, we all go through those stalls.  (Key word is through.  You will come THROUGH this!)  Like every thing else, God will bring you THROUGH this.  When I was going through all my trials, a 6 to 7 week stall was part of that.  I thought I was stuck on that weight forever.  I am so proud of your accomplishments.  You are an awesome person.  Michael
