Hi,
The doctor and nut told me to drink 64 oz of whi*****lude a list of other sugar free drinks.  I'm finding it really hard to do the 64 oz in a day.  Is this normal for me since I just had my VSG last Wednesday?  When I drink and I mean take small sips. I can feel it go down but it gets stuck sometimes and goes down very slow and hurts.  So, I'm drinking very slow and I'm not able to get the 64 oz a day yet.

I didn't have VSG but I found the same thing.  I just drink as much as I could comfortably.  I've heard other people say that it took them 6 weeks or more before they could get that much fluid in, while others were able to get it in the first week.  Remember your broth and protein drinks also count towards that 64 oz.  Welcome to the loosers bench.

Thanks kathpf.  I was just wondering, it's good to know that you are not the only one.  Thanks again.

I know I'm not getting that much water in yet, but I sip sip sip all day long. As weired as it sounds one of my nurses told me as long as my pee is clear-clearish yellow I will be ok and am getting enough water to not be dehydrated. I think it is going to take time to be able to get the water in.

EODWIFEY,

You are right.  I guess as long as am peeing and yes it about that color, light clearish yellow.  I can only drink about 40 -58 oz right now.  Thanks for your input.

My good friend had her sleeve on TUesday and she is having issues with water, so I was just talking about this with her. SHe was super worried about not getting her water in too.
Hope you heal up fast and have much success with this surgery!

Thanks, I'm glad your friend can be at ease now, she's not the only one with the problem of getting all her water in daily.  I wish you and her the very best on your weight loss journey.

Hi.
I used a 2-oz. shot glass, for my water, and I kept track with tally marks. It helped me remember to take small sips and not to feel overwhelmed by the amount. In the early days, on the days when it seemed especially hard to get in fluids, I used my timer, and every 5 minutes I took a few sips. By doing that, I was able to get in at least 48 oz. and often more.
I totally remember feeling like it was a full-time job, but it was a "job" I'd signed up for, and I was determined to be a model, compliant patient. :) Plus, I did not want problems with kidney stones, which we can get more easily after WLS.
Good luck. I know it's hard, but it gets better. Just don't let yourself "off the hook" too easily, as staying hydrated is so very important, and it's worth the hassle, to avoid a trip to the hospital to get IV fluids.
Blessings,
Mary

Hi Mary,

Yes, it does feel like a full time job.  It feels overwhelming when you are hurting and nausa comes in, it's even worse.  I'm taking medication for pain and nausa, so that does helps.  I never thought about using a timer.   I know that you are a woman of faith so please keep me in prayers.

Thanks so much for your advice.  You ROCK Marylaw!!!

Blessings
